English orthography is insane. It's hard enough for those of us who are native speakers and we usually end up with reasonable spelling but there are exceptions. I would never ever assume someone with spelling errors was less intelligent or make fun of *them personally*. Yes make fun of the weirdness. So many people confuse 'desert' and 'dessert' making a joke about eating sand is fair game IMO. We all make tpyos. Laugh together not at people eh?
I put this in the same category as assuming people with a southern drawl are less intelligent. Stop it.

Come on Barnes and Nodule, this is a really simple one to fix and it makes you look careless. It's not like this is even an edge condition, it'll happen all the time.

In the conventional spelling, "drinks cabinet", "drinks" is used attributively; there's no need to invoke the possessive case. But you do see occasional variation with compounds like this

Recently, my wife and I were watching an old episode of Morse (British crime/whodunnit from the 80s-00s). In it, Morse insists apologise should be spelt with a zed.
Wife and screamed at the TV - as you do.
Where the fuck did that idea come from? Don't say, the yanks. This is entirely on the Poms.

Spelling and Vocabulary for the Secretary
by Long, Tillett, and Woodbridge
for Katharine Gibbs School, New York
----------------------
After I became a proofreader, my dad gave me this reference book, which belonged to my grandmother who I never met. She traveled to New York to attend Katharine Gibbs School in the 1930s and later became a chief administrator at Duke Hospital.
She must have used this book quite often. It is worn and filled with her handwritten notes. I wish I could have connected with her as a fellow word nerd.

"_Fellow word-nerd Gabe Henry, author of Enough Is Enuf: Our Failed Attempts to Make English Easier to Spell, joins Sarah as they chummily pun their way through the story of the 18th century Dictionary Wars, the story of the publishing battles fought between a handful of eccentric word-lovers in The US and England, all vying for the future supremacy of their own spellings._"
