Often, they've never had to think about if a historical famous figure would've owned their ancestors, or colonized their lands, or killed them for who they loved or their gender expression.
The shock and betrayal they have when this illusion is broken. They didn't grow up thinking all of the heroes were tarnished. They never learned heroism exists despite that.
