Look at the wonderful zoning picked out by UV fluorescence in this crystal from Mud Tank, sawn in half at right angles to the c axis. 😍 😍 😍 Look at those wee pale corner blue sectors😊 !. Although Mud Tank zircon is often used as a secondary standard in analysis, AFAIK nobody has ever looked at this sector zoning....🤓 🤔

#MinCup23 perovskite vs rhodochrosite. Got to be #perovskite. Rhodochrosite is a one-trick pony, but perovskite is mysteriously magnificent. Amazing structure, amazing chemistry, and found in wonderfully weird rocks. Like this "necklace" of perovskite crystals around an altered olivine macrocryst, in the strange and great Glen Golly aillikite dyke in Sutherland. #Geology #VotePerovskite #Mineralogy

#MinCup23 calcite and kyanite are both wonderful minerals.But I'm going for kyanite: it bespeaks deep burial, and high pressure, and it always makes a rock better to have some kyanite in it. Here's a pic of some deep blue, chromium-rich kyanite, with green fuchsite, and pink ruby, from Mysore in India.
