#MinCup23 Vote #Zircon!! Here's a gorgeous big chestnut zircon from the excellently-named Mud Tank carbonatite, in Northern Australia. This one, which I bought in Tucson in 2006, is nearly 4cm long. *AND* this crystal also glows gold in 254nm UV light!! Vote for truth and beauty - #VoteZircon ๐Ÿ˜Š ๐Ÿ‘ #Geology #Mineralogy
@FaithfullJohn Spectacular, John! That's a keeper.
@vickyveritas I bought it for the Hunterian museum using the mineral and fossil purchase endowment fund, very kindly given to the museum in the 1980s by the parents of James Carrick, a geology student who sadly died while at Glasgow. Such funds are very rare in the UK, and it has been so useful to the Hunterian, and to our visitors, students, and other users. ๐Ÿ™
