I want to write a few blog posts with tips & advice about using Mastodon to do #FannishThings. Some ideas:
- writing #threadfics
- posting #fanart, edits, gifs (sfw & nsfw)
- finding #fandom friends
- running #FandomChallenges & events
- promoting your own fics, vids & fanworks
- sharing fanwork recs
- running hourly/daily/whatever accounts
What else would you like to do on a fandom-focused mastodon instance, or on blorbo.social specifically?
✨ You can find a specific post, even from another instance, by putting the URL in the search box!
✨ You can also search a specific hashtag on a specific person's profile! Use the format INSTANCE.NAME/@USER/tagged/TAG.
✨ If you post a thread, you can keep from spamming by using visibility settings! Set the first post (with any tags) as Public, then the rest as Unlisted. It'll still be visible to everyone if they click through, but only the first post will show up on Federated/Local timelines.
✨ Remember, you're not a product here! Your admins aren't getting ad revenue from you - instead, you're being hosted at a cost to them, because they want you here. If you want to donate to help out, usually the "about" page in the bottom left corner of the site has links for your instance.
✨ Finally, ask for help if you need it! I've seen hashtags like "FediHelp" and "NewHere". A lot of people are super friendly and willing to explain things!

For those that joined #Mastodon and grabbed the first server they could find but would prefer to #migrate to a different one, I created a short guide on how to do this quickly and easily.
It also allows you to easily move any followers across to your new profile and leaves a redirection on your old profile for those that find it. 😁👍

One thing that’s a bit of a hassle with Mastodon is that you can’t immediately follow people on other instances.
You have to copy the username and search for it on the server that has your account.
To make this easier, I’ve created a little bookmarklet. Press it, and you’ll be taken to the same account as viewed from the masto host you are on.
