Germicidal UV lamps: A trade-off between disinfection and air quality - American Chemical Society

Researchers reporting in ACS’ Environmental Science & Technology Letters have modeled the reactions initiated by UVC sanitizing light and find that there’s a trade-off between removing viruses and producing air pollutants.

Handbook of Indoor Air Quality

This book introduces indoor air quality from basic knowledge to scientific research. It is helpful to the researchers and technicians in all fields.

We had some super cool demonstrations of optical rotation (the rotation of the plane of polarisation of linearly polarised light as it passes through a #chiral molecule). Here’s light twisting through sucrose and fructose! 🌀🌈 I’ll paste the tweet to avoid overloading #ScienceMastodon’s servers https://twitter.com/jesswade/status/1593358274052644871

Here's a question I've been meaning to post on the bird site, but I'll put to my fellow nerds here instead:

I've been doing "this" *waves around at current and former students, finished and unfinished papers, failed proposals and successful grants, etc* for 20+ years now, and with age comes the question of keeping my skills up to date.

One big change over my career has been the (welcome) surge of open source, community driven software tools (R, Python, Julia, ...). 1/n

People grumbling that #Mastodon is slow at the moment... You just turned up with 1 million people in a tiny, rural village and you're complaining there's a queue to get into the only tearoom, which is run by gay pensioners Babs & Maureen as a retirement hobby on Mons-Weds. Relax!

Hey everyone in atmoschem.org,

Right now I have to manually approve people who want to join the server. This may take a few hours.

If you know somebody who wants to join, you can go to "Preferences" --> "Invite People" to generate a link that will allow people to join with automatic approval.

If you have colleagues, etc. interested in joining this instance, feel free to generate and share this link with them to allow them faster access to the instance.

If you try this and it doesn't work, let me know and I can modify some settings.

There's an atmospheric list available that you can use to find atmospheric folks to follow (if you are interested).

Atmospheric and air quality folks on Mastodon

An open list for any scientists, researchers, or communicators working in the fields of atmospheric chemistry, atmospheric science, air quality (indoor/outdoor), etc. Link to spreadsheet for current atmospheric folks on Mastodon Link to share this form with others Update: Nov. 9, 2022. This list is now available to download on GitHub (https://jorgesat.github.io/Mastodon-Atmospheric/). If you do not want your name on that list, please contact (@[email protected])

#Introduction
I'm an #atmospheric chemist and mass spectrometrist at Bucknell University. My group (mainly undergraduates) studies #multiphase #chemistry of reactive gases at air-exposed surfaces, including inspiration from indoor building surfaces, the air-sea interface, #aerosol particle surfaces, lung fluid, and even insect surfaces! We use various mass spectrometry approaches to address #surface film chemistry questions.
