Rock pooler, writer, educator and sea slug obsessive.

So excited for Cornish Rock Pools Junior as he starts college! We will miss the freedom and beauty of home educating on the beaches, but we will always feel at home in the rock pools. Meanwhile, I'm back to blogging and writing... and, of course, rock pooling.

Here's my latest blog post, from a trip to one of our favourite rock pooling spots).

I've finally updated my blog with a post about finding my first rosy feather star 🤩 (which was a happy, happy day!). https://cornishrockpools.com/2023/01/30/wishing-on-a-rosy-feather-star/

Cornish Rock Pools
They're back! The wonderfully varied but inappropriately named Montagu's sea snails are everywhere at the moment here in SE Cornwall. (They're tiny fish - no relation to snails 🤔🤷‍♀️).

The tentacles of a juvenile beadlet anemone (Actinia equina) are lusciously protected from drying out with a film of water and mucus.

I'm not always excited about the short winter days, but at least I don't have to stay up late to go night rock pooling! The anemones are amazing this time of year, especially in UV light. 😍 🌊

Does anyone else notice #Nature in their dreams? 😴 I know I'm a huge #naturenerd but recently more of my dreams are starting to feature feathered friends and #wildlife. In last night's dream I was lying in the leaf litter with flocks of feeding Bramblings playing hide and seek. It's getting to that time of year - I obviously can't wait! 🍂😍

Do you ever dream about species you see often, or haven't seen in a while?

Made the jump over to Mastodon along with several other folk! I'm Josh and I'm a willdife guide from Cornwall with a camera and a lot of bad shots that I never post. Now I'm living in New Zealand and hoping to see a whole range of new creatures! Here is a trio of Cornish creatures to kick things off

Posting a serene sunrise on the River Cam this morning as my first post!

I have no idea how to navigate this place, but I’ll give it a go! Thanks for joining me here where I will post photos of Cambridge uni life , the natural world and occasionally, news about my books 🌿

Meet our Daikin heat pump - isn’t she sexy? 🥰 I think she’s awesome & she WORKS. She’s working a tiny bit harder since our first frost on Friday night, but no sweat, not in her stride yet.

Post Cop27 I’m going to post a few insights on owning one. But I don’t want to sound preachy, smug or privileged. It’s why avoided doing this on Twitter - you mostly get comments that these beautiful things are as good as chocolate teapots.
