Rock pooler, writer, educator and sea slug obsessive.

So excited for Cornish Rock Pools Junior as he starts college! We will miss the freedom and beauty of home educating on the beaches, but we will always feel at home in the rock pools. Meanwhile, I'm back to blogging and writing... and, of course, rock pooling.

Here's my latest blog post, from a trip to one of our favourite rock pooling spots).

I've finally updated my blog with a post about finding my first rosy feather star 🤩 (which was a happy, happy day!). https://cornishrockpools.com/2023/01/30/wishing-on-a-rosy-feather-star/

Cornish Rock Pools
They're back! The wonderfully varied but inappropriately named Montagu's sea snails are everywhere at the moment here in SE Cornwall. (They're tiny fish - no relation to snails 🤔🤷‍♀️).
I'm not always excited about the short winter days, but at least I don't have to stay up late to go night rock pooling! The anemones are amazing this time of year, especially in UV light. 😍 🌊
Winter rock pooling in #Cornwall isn't everyone's cup of tea, I'm sure... but it's the best time for finding these beautiful stalked #jellyfish so I'm happy. 😊 🌊 They're tiny and attach onto seaweeds and seagrass. The white spots are stinging cells (nematocysts).

Sharing a few more incredible rock pool creatures with you while I'm sorting out my pics. 🌊 🦀 These were all found this summer at children's events I run as a volunteer for my local marine conservation group and Cornwall Wildlife Trust.

There was a lot of excitement (including from me) over seeing the feeding legs of barnacles emerging from their turquoise openings, watching a larval baby crab swim and meeting salps. Sea slugs are always a bonus too!

Trying out my first "Toot"...hello!👋 Starting as I mean to go on by sharing some of the amazing #nudibranchs #starfish and other creatures I have seen recently in my local rock pools here in #Cornwall, UK. 🌊 I'm looking forward to meeting #wildlife folk on here.
