The wee folk danced here.

Joe Walsh is a former Tea Party Republican who has joined the Democratic party.

Real conservatives prioritize their commitment to democracy and the Constitution above party. The conservatives who voted for Trump are just some combination of selfish, racist, and hateful.

My two eldest were talking yesterday about social anxiety and how it can be debilitating, suggesting perhaps I didn't understand this. I explained that I get enormous social anxiety but have just learned - maybe not necessarily to deal with it - but to compartmentalise. I know the payoff will be worthwhile.

I had to attend a party last week I reeeally didn't want to go to, but I knew I owed it to the person who's party it was who I love very much, and that there would be people there I love very much and don't see that often, and crucially, the last big party like that I went to for them was 20 years ago, so I'd check a big one off the list I won't have to do again for absolutely ages. Turns out I also had a great time, which was unexpected (of course I always do and it is always unexpected).

But I told them instead about my trip to the spa the other day. I'm in the pool and there's a group of maybe 20 young men all approximately the same age, all very very tall and very very thin and athletic. All I'm saying is that I've never seen so many abs in one place since the 5ive-themed fancy dress party. Outside is 30° sunshine, jacuzzis and sun-loungers. I want to be outside but it is *busy*. Lots of young people in various states of undress - some quite bold. I keep looking out there to see if I can scurry my way to a location where I can set up basecamp. I then worry I look like I'm checking people out like some horrendous pervert-ogre. But I realise I might be overthinking things and resolve to try and put this silliness to one side and just go out there, soaking wet in nothing but essentially some large pants in front of all of these beautiful confident young people and I won't look like a freakish aged mutant intent on ruining their day - I am just a man, a normal man, I am not a weird hideous monster I am just a normal person who wants to sit in the sun. OK I'm definitely overthinking this. So I go outside. Oh no. It is *really* busy and the space is much smaller than I thought. There is one sunlounger left. It's in extremely close proximity to two young ladies. I'm going for it...... E-excuse me, b-b-but is someone sitting there?... Looks. From everywhere. It's fine Ben, just breathe, you haven't done or said anything weird, you're overthinking this. One replies; 'dunno mate - if there's no towel on it I reckon you're fine'. A normal response. I passed the test. I thank them and go to lie on a bed right next to them like it's totally normal. Just like I'm breaking into their home and getting into bed with them. Totally normal. Normal people stuff. You're overthinking this, Ben. Oh no. What if I sit on the end and it flips up and everyone laughs? How am I supposed to get on it? Do I straddle it then ease myself down? I think...... No. I will slide my way up from the bottom. So I sort of straddle then ease down onto it, for some reason expecting my shorts to just fly off, so am terrified, then lay down and sort of slither up. What do I do with my arms? The arm bits are too high up. This can't be right. So I put them inside the arm rests squashed down by my side. It's very uncomfortable. Then I realise. The lounger is sort of a relaxed L shape, but my head is at the hinge area. I've made a mistake. I'm squished into the lower part straight out like a snake and my legs are totally off the end.

I. Must. Look. Insane.

So I then have to get up and sit on it like a normal human being and then I realise there's someones shoes next to it and that I've stolen someone's seat but that's another story and that is one small tale of an experience that lasted less than a minute that I had to navigate, which was essentially working out how to sit down.

I don't know about social anxiety? Honey I *am* social anxiety.

If your prison is deliberately designed to concentrate 25-30 prisoners per cell, that is not a prison, that is a concentration camp.

If your concentration camp is deliberately designed to torture prisoners with maggot infested meals and permanent bright lights denying them sleep, that is not a concentration camp, that is a torture camp.

If your torture camp is deliberately designed in the most dangerous possible flood zone, infested by alligators and disease riddled mosquitoes, that is not a torture camp, that is a death camp.

And if you are kidnapping women and children, locking them in death camps, and live streaming their torture for money, you are not the President, you are a sadist. And you will be dealt with accordingly.

@augieray trusting Walsh is a BIG MISTAKE.

Big.

There. Are. No. Decent. Republicans. They. Are. *ALL*. Filthy. Nazis. Without. Exception.

#TurdReich #TEAParty #MAGAts #GOP

@faraiwe I don't trust Walsh. I welcome his voice in criticizing Trump and encouraging other Republicans to do so.

The enemy of my enemy is not my friend. But it's stupid to reject Republicans who want to stand up for democracy and the Constitution and join the resistance against Trump.

I may never agree with Walsh's policies, but I can respect his commitment to doing what's right at this moment.

If you're drowning and a Republican holds out his hand to save you, you take it.

@augieray

👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Well said!

Saving our democracy (as flawed as it is) from maga. is a heavy lift.

We need all the helping hands we can get.

We can resume our differences later.

@faraiwe

@bronakins @augieray as long as everyone is well aware that Walsh is not doing this because he has any principles, but because he was left out of the grift roster.

See also "Lincoln Project", and so many other repenting magdalenes, who develop "principles" when the money stops flowing.

As mentioned, the enemy of my enemy is not my friend. What you do is, you let them both shoot at each other, then you finish the survivor off.

Then have him help quietly without giving him a platform that he can use against us later. We are in no shortage of white guys with microphones.

@bronakins @augieray @faraiwe

@fromjason @bronakins @faraiwe IMO, we need more loud white guy Republicans who can influence white guy Republicans. We need people who look and act like Joe Rogan to counteract Rogan. If you think we chip away at Republican support by burying the few GOP voices criticizing Trump, I think your strategy will fail.

Because the strategy of appealing to rich white centrists has gone so well? At the expense of virtually every oppressed identity in this country no less. Yeah I'm good with not doing that anymore actually. I'm not going to keep begging white men to stop over funding ICE and the police, or to give trans people their humanity.

Every fascist tool Trump is using was funded by those we insist on courting.

@augieray @bronakins @faraiwe

@fromjason We share the same perspective but disagree on approach. Either way, neither you nor I will have an impact on whether Republicans like Joe Walsh raise their voices. I just think, if you look at the 2024 election, the problem was NOT that Harris didn't have enough influencers who were trans or POCs speaking up. It was that white males listened to people like Rogan and Charlie Kirk. Like it or not, if we want to win more white males, we need to accept white male voices opposed to Trump.

@augieray I think we may differ on perspective a bit. The people we have a chance at converting, not the upper middle class who vote Trump for their wallets, but the poor who want change, will never come to the Dems because our corporate donors decided that a populist message is a non-starter.

What's a liberal Joe Rogan with the same status quo corporate approved messaging?

The last election people were drowning, and we were pointing at graphs about how the economy was good, actually.

@augieray and then when we lost the election, we tried to blame Black and Latino people. MSNBC primetime blaming Latinos. This is not a matter of poor messaging. It's a matter of poor policy. The people voting for Trump are misguided, sure. But they'll never come over if we keep gaslighting them. Joe Walsh being anti-Trump is not good enough. Us being anti-Trump is not good enough.
@augieray Joe Walsh is not changing minds. He is the archetype of why people are fleeing the Democratic Party in the first place.

@fromjason @augieray @bronakins we must both court and cater to NON WHITES NON MALES vote, trying to - maybe who knows - put forth YOUNGER, PROGRESSIVE people with PROGRESSIVE - did I mention PROGRESSIVE? - policies and platforms that white male majority is not exactly keen on.

THAT is how dens would win elections... If they cared to do so, instead of catering to white male conservatives, while demonizing anyone else.

#TurdReich #Democrats #USPol

@augieray Fair enough, and I relate.
@augieray @faraiwe too bad his hand is coming with a baggage 🙁
@augieray There really is no left wing party. There are liberals in the Democratic Party, but they're NOT well received. What we really have is conservative corporate owned vs. Nazi corporate owned.
@crazyeddie I am exhausted having to argue with people about idiocy like this. The Democrats may disappoint you, but if you cannot fundamentally tell the difference between the unconstitutional, racist and demented policies of this administration and the alternative offered by the Democrats, that says a lot more about you than it does US political parties.

@augieray You read a lot into that and became a total asshole for no reason.

Later.

@crazyeddie @augieray Well you were the only person talking about 'left wing' parties. So why did you go there?

@augieray @crazyeddie

"The white conservatives aren't friends of the Negro either, but they at least don't try to hide it. They are like wolves; they show their teeth in a snarl that keeps the Negro always aware of where he stands with them. But the white liberals are foxes, who also show their teeth to the Negro but pretend that they are smiling. The white liberals are more dangerous than the conservatives; they lure the Negro, and as the Negro runs from the growling wolf, he flees into the open jaws of the "smiling" fox."

Malcolm X

@augieray @crazyeddie Or maybe you're just a racist who was fine with record deportations, record shootings by police, and genocide when it was a Democrat doing it.
@ushmel @augieray How dare you say we piss on the poor
@augieray Recognizing “conservative” as a coherent worldview & politics which - whatever one’s personal opinion - DO directly oppose those of this regime, despite maga’s insistence otherwise, is both excellent tactics to reinstate American pluralism via schism of the far-right coalition, and an effort to revive intellectual honesty over tribalism(which also imo takes significant bravery when even legibility of others’ beliefs is often held suspect.) It’s the right, hard thing.
@augieray
He was good in The Eagles.
@GoatRoper What is it with people who see a serious post about a deadly serious topic and think, "I'll make a silly dad joke?"

@augieray

I'm sorry I bothered you. I will fix that for you. Have a blessed and holy day! Thoughts and prayers!🙏

@augieray I agree the US should have open borders and shouldn't be harassing civilians at work regardless of their naturalization status. The anti-immigration efforts are a smokescreen for the fact Republicans have offered nothing tangible to the working class. We need lower cost housing, higher wages, better educational opportunities, lower grocery prices. Kidnapping someone at their job isn't going to fix that.
@augier if these scum who voted the felon (not once but twice, even more likely three times) now wants to join the opposition, they can prove themselves first, not by hijacking the opposition agenda but by showing their true patriotism and their undying love for guns by exercising their 2A rights first, if not enjoy MAGA lite until whatever even more vile comes after MAGA.
@augieray Joe Walsh is more acceptable to the DNC than Zohran Mamdani…

@Tattered The Democratic Party would not support Joe Walsh running as a Democrat. They welcome his criticism of Donald Trump.

I am frustrated with how many in the DNC have treated Mamdani, but the comparison you made is hardly apples to apples.

@augieray If a former member of the Tea Party is now a member of the Democrats, it seems a fine distinction to me. But then, I am no admirer of any political party to the right of socialism. The idea that the DNC represents the American Left seems to me to be a very large part of the current political difficulties faced by the US.

@augieray

Joe Walsh did what now? I need a moment.
