Former analyst/programmer/integrator, now retired in the south of England

In London, there is a First Thursday group, which started with a few people working on OS/2. It has a variety of interesting individuals meeting at a pub and chatting, and drinking and eating. When I was in Bracknell, I attended most months (easy on train). It had people like Guy Kewney even, and, well, people like me 🙂

Now I am in Wales I miss that.

I am wondering if I need to *start* a thing - a first Wednesday in an Indian in Aber. We may have three of us so far.

So it's time for a new router 😪
Does anyone have a recommendation?

Our house has a weird setup - there are large spaces with no option for a cable link

The setup right now is a Orbi RBR850 mesh with 3 satellites but it's not up to the challenge in terms of (internal) bandwidth

the birth of the internet?
Yes, I am jumping on the hype bandwagon, but that hype is totally deserved, I've been listening to Angine De Poitrine for the last week on repeat, and they are EPIC

@fishidwardrobe @neil As someone with degenerative eye disease who is going blind, I find your defense of Meta glasses offensive. Meta glasses are not a medical device. If there's something about this tech that can benefit those with vision issues in the least it should not violate the patient's privacy nor the privacy of those crossing their paths, should not require a connection to the Internet, and should have no ability to record audio OR video.

> Women leaving the beach, going into a shop, or simply standing outside are now being approached by men usually wearing Meta's Ray-Bans, the company's "smart" or "AI" glasses, often in order to film the women's responses to casual questions or pick-up lines without their knowledge or consent.

Perhaps it is time to simply ban them from public.

Whether I'm talking about spy glasses or men, you decide...

Smart glasses are 'an invasion of privacy' - Meta's are selling better than ever

The biggest tech firms are set to sell millions of smart glasses despite growing privacy concerns.

@fesshole Worst rewrite of Pinball Wizard ever.

@KiwiEV Doesn't sound optimal. I know you're a do-it-yourself kinda guy, but I strongly recommend a chat with an employment lawyer.

A bit like I'd recommend someone wanting to build their own EV had a chat with you. An awful lot of institutional knowledge there.
