Animal of the day (007)
With keeled scales like these, the Spiny Bush Viper has got to be one of the prettiest snakes out there. It stays relatively small, only reaching about 2.5 feet in length, but its venom packs some nasty neurotoxins that can cause severe hemorrhaging of internal organs, and prove lethal without the proper first aid and antivenom treatment. Thankfully, bites are rather rare. Endemic to Central Africa, it is mostly nocturnal and arboreal, often found basking on top of flowers and leaves. It preys on small mammals, frogs, lizards, and sometimes birds.
