Audiobooks count as reading and you can fight me about it. My life is 90% books and dogs
Have I been disassociating this month while the horrors persist around me? Yes. So far this month I’ve read 8 ALCs and I’ve highlighted 0 of them. Here’s all 8 with my star rating and a snippet of my chaotic thoughts:

1. Zoe Brennan, First Crush by Laura Piper Lee. This book was mega horny and also really funny. Femme x masc sapphic rom com set in a winery, get into it.

2. The Girl Most Likely To by Julie Tieu. Second chance romanceish 20 year high school reunion love story. Messy, funny, a little heartwarming. Yeehaw

3. You Between The Lines by Katie Naymon. A MASTERCLASS IN YEARNING OMG. Two poets who have been pining for each other for years in the same MFA program??? I’m gonna eat it up

4. The Perfect Rom-Com by Melissa Ferguson. There’s something about Melissa Ferguson’s writing that really works for me. The back and forth between the main characters was excellent in this one. Cutie little easy read

5. Shoot Your Shot by Lexie Lafleur Brown. This was cute enough but the FMC sorta pmo. Like okay!! We get it!! You’re the coolest, edgiest girl that has ever lived and you have tattoos!!!

6. Playing Flirty by Shameez Patel. Nerd alert!!! Super cute nerdy romance alert!!!

7. The Sirens by Emilia Hart. I was simply not the target demographic for this book and I feel the synopsis was a bit misleading. Beautifully written, not for me, definitely for other people.

8. Something Cheeky by Thien-Kim Lam. This book was positively STUFFED with representation and cute enough. Didn’t rock my world but I still liked it. Did appeal to my former theatre kid heart though!

For my fellow white women, I encourage you to read more books on intersectionality in feminism. I read this one today and it’s given me plenty to think about. Depending on where you are in your journey, it may be difficult and uncomfortable to listen to, but it’s so important.

The Greene Sisters trilogy was such a cute collection! These interconnected standalones each focus on a different sister and each one is positively darling. I think my favorite was The Neighbor Favor, but I enjoyed all of them. Have you read any of them?

This book lived up to the hype, folks. I liked the first two, but I LOVED this one! There’s really not much to add to what has already been said about this book, but I had a great time!!

January reading wrap up! (And YEAH it took me most of the month to realize I wasn’t tracking my audiobooks in minutes 🥲🥲🥲)

Total: 20
ARCs: 8
Fiction: 19
Nonfiction: 1
Rereads: 4

This was a busy January for so me I didn’t get as much reading done as I would have liked, but I’m still quite pleased with how the year kicked off! My December books were all pretty lackluster and I really enjoyed most of the books I read this month. Only ONE SINGLE book below 3⭐️ and I had multiple new 5⭐️ reads!! I don’t know that I can pick a favorite this month.

What was your favorite book you read in January?

I Think They Love You was a sweet second chance/fake dating love story between Denz and Braylon. Denz comes from an event planning empire and his father, the CEO, is ready to step down and name his successor. In an attempt to make himself seem more responsible, Denz lies about being in a serious relationship. In an act of desperation, he convinces his Ex, Bray (who now goes by Braylon), to fake date him after running into each other for the first time since they broke up years ago.

This book was cute and sweet and all the things I love to see from a fake dating book!! I’m not usually a huge fan of second chance romance, but this one was done well. I loved the way we got to watch them fall back in love, both facing their fears to do so. The secondary characters were excellent, I laughed several times listening to this, and it left me feeling warm and fuzzy. One thing I gotta say though- what do you mean Bray went to England AS AN ADULT, stayed there for a couple years, and came home with a British accent? That’s insane. But truly, a minor gripe all things considered.

Thank you Netgalley for my copy of this audiobook!

Unromance by Erin Connor was everything I love in a romance book. Everything. There was BANTER, there was YEARNING, there was FEET KICKING (on my end). I stayed giggling and twirling my hair the whole time I was reading this!! I love love loved the dynamics between Sawyer and Mason. The vibes were right and I really enjoyed this one.

My biggest criticism of the book was the male narrator- he wasn’t my cup of tea but it wasn’t so distracting that I didn’t enjoy this.

Thank you Netgalley for my ALC of this!

First thing’s first: thank you Netgalley for the ALC of this book!
Sometimes I read a book and I struggle to know- Am I an idiot who doesn’t understand this book or is this book just actually boring as heck? In the case of Mona Acts Out, I think it was just actually very boring and tedious.

I think someone who was involved in the NY theatre scene or someone who’s a big Shakespeare buff would like this much more than I did, but I’m neither of those demographics. This book jumped from present day to various points in the past constantly, which was a touch confusing. I found Mona pretty boring, unlikable, and her constant protection and ideation of a man who’d proven to be a predator was a bit unsettling.
I wanted to like this book and I thought I would based on the synopsis, but I found this book neither exuberant nor deeply moving.

A couple good things:
The narration was really well done!! And a moment for the cover art?? Just beautiful. Unfortunately they weren’t enough to save it for me.

1.5⭐️ rounded up to 2⭐️ for goodreads
