@Wen @clickhere Yup, top tip. Call the police, only smash the window yourself if they haven't turned up and the dog's life seems to be in danger. (With kids, if there's any suggestion they're in trouble, I'd have less patience. Still call the police though.)

@bouriquet I suspect that giving the animal air might just extend its life an enable it to get out of the car. A proper window bashing would of course be required
