No spoiler hiding for this one, my loves. I need EVERYONE to see this. Boost this fucker to the MOON. Screenshot it, include my name, and spread it EVERYWHERE.

Sorry for the grim news. But I think this is important, and I want each of you in your respective countries to think about whether you'd be willing to contact your representative to tell them to pressure Canada to open the doors to trans refugees.

That's it. No changes in your countries are needed - just people willing to stand up and say "Never Again". This is the bad one. This is the Nuremberg Race Laws being enacted. This will basically strip all ability from any federally-funded entity - ANY - that allows that trans people exist.

This one, my friends, I'm sorry, but it's the choice to genocide the trans population of the US. A nice quiet one. Where we all just fade into obscurity, and are never seen again. They want to cause us so much despair that we will take care of the final solution part for them.

Please. If you give a damn about humanity, and people's rights to live as who they are...basic human dignity. Health care. Not being force-detransitioned in prisons that we've been put into because we were designated terrorists by the Nazi regime of Trump.

Just contact your rep, whoever that is, wherever that is, and start that conversation for me, okay? Just ask them to start asking questions. Of Canada. We have a chance to save literally hundreds of thousands of innocent US trans folk.

I can handle the work on this end, in Canada. I have people I can mobilise, work with. But international pressure would be an ENORMOUS help.

If you want to translate my post into your language, please do. If you DM me the text, I will re-post it myself, and take the arrows for spreading the call.

I - we - need your help.

"Fascism"—New Federal Rule Would Require Federal Funding Recipients To Deny Trans People Exist

The rule could have heavy impacts towards trans people across society.

Erin In The Morning

I want my name included for a good reason: I want the US government's resources focused on trying to silence me in Canada, instead of the USan activists doing the same work.

I am safe here. I trust my country's laws and courts, and I fear nothing from the US. So leave my name in it, and give them someone to think about.

@oldladyplays I really wonder why they're going to such great lengths to attack such a tiny minority - are we really such a big threat to them? Why is the "sex binary" such an important issue for the US administration? It seems to be an ideological/religious enforcement rather than for any practical reason.

@xorlou

Why did the Nazis choose the Jews? Because fascism needs an enemy. And they've learned that USan people are gonna stand up for immigrants. So we're being promoted to Main Threat.

They feel fairly confident that the US population will not make the same level of effort for a quiet genocide. No ICE teams harassing people in the streets, just a bunch of trans folk quietly harming themselves in despair.

And *poof* - they've got a galvanising issue to put in front of their bigoted base, and hope to juice turnout by promising to make our lives hell.

It's just cynical politics, allied to their innate conservatism that says "you can't be different from me, it's immoral!"

Jessica Price on Twitter

“Non-Jewish victims of the Holocaust, a thread. Let's start with trans people, and LGBT and gender non-conforming people more generally. The Nazis set back progress on LGBT rights at least 75 years.”

@kkarhan @oldladyplays @xorlou Yep! The Nazis basically sent us back to SQUARE ONE on transgender healthcare, and they were just as happy to go after queer individuals as they were the Jews (hell, they even had a specific symbol to identify gay men/crossdressers in concentration camps).

@rosaaeterna @oldladyplays @xorlou yeah, the #PinkTriangle.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink_triangle

It took till 2002 for Germany to retroactively cancel any sentences the Nazi courts made.

Pink triangle - Wikipedia

@xorlou @oldladyplays I really don't think it's ever been about transness or queerness of any kind, just like it's never really been about abortion. In any organization there are rank-and-file members who believe the explicitly mentioned goals of the organization and the inner members who understand what the goals actually are -- and in this way there are genuinely lots of folks manipulated to believe that transness or queerness or abortion or whatever other contrived issue *is* the thing they need to be concerned about. The rest of us need to understand that these folks are being manipulated to ends they don't even understand and the reason we need to see this is because only then can we really start to pick apart what the underlying strategic move is. These are easy issues to manipulate folks on, and they enable the organization (the government or whatever entity/entities are otherwise controlling the government branches through money etc) to begin to erode agency little by little.

I see this *said* a lot in the vein of "first they come for the X, then they come for your neighbor, then they come for you" but it feels like at the end of the day folks are still trying to find the logic in *why them?* and I'm just here to say, I guess, that there is no way to resolve the logic here without understanding that this is part of a continuous colonial authoritarian thread that's been spun since long before what we call "America" even existed and will continue to be spun for a long while, long after we forget all about the age of fears of "trans-contagion" and all of that nonsense.

@Siiin @xorlou @oldladyplays it's always the most vulnerable minority first.

Because that's how they normalize democide & genocide!

https://mastodon.social/@kkarhan/116716960694088943

@kkarhan @xorlou @oldladyplays Precisely. In the 30's what was on folks' minds in economically-depressed Germany were Jewish people because there was a relevant cultural thread of antisemitism that already existed based on factors that I don't really wish to get into here at this exact moment as I'm not an expert and fear misrepresenting the specific ideas of the time based on things I've not read in a while -- what's on folks minds today is queerness. Again, for a multitude of reasons that are difficult to discuss because it's likely I'll end up representing my own experience and leaving someone else thinking I'm omitting theirs -- though most of us probably already have lived through this escalation and have some semblance of an understanding *why* trans folks are an easy target *right now* and how that plays into some of the other gendered violence that's useful for the accumulation of State power.

@Siiin

Not about transness?

@RuthODay2 @xorlou @oldladyplays This is a wild misunderstanding of what I said. In no way am I saying that transphobia is not *real* or resulting in terrible things, but that the *reason* transphobia is such a major social issue is not that humans are for some reason inherently anti-trans but that rhetoric is being used to manipulate people who don't understand what they're being used for into fighting against theirs and others' rights -- just as other 'isms have been used in past contexts. And my comment was in direct response to a commenter saying "why trans folks" so I felt like that was all fairly explained in my comment but I can understand why you're maybe out here feeling a little emotionally disregulated and reactive rather than attentive to what's being read. So I see you in that and just want it to be understood that my comment was clearly not an assertion that trans folks aren't being targeted, but rather an affirmation of the broader issues *leading* to trans folk being targeted.

@xorlou @oldladyplays

The point is to legitimize violence / subjugation. Once they get away with it on one group, they branch out from there.

Mostly, I tend to say the point is self-destruction. It’s a disease process like cancer.

@xorlou @oldladyplays because they're all in the closet and it's making them furiously angry.

@xorlou @oldladyplays

IMHO - They are bullies. Simply put.

Bullies trying to appeal to other bullies by being bullies and flaunting their 'accomplishments" as bullies.

Other bullies see the signaling and understand that they also need to show their allegiance and support for #fascism and #hate by looking for new opportunities & victims to bully.

It's grade school basically...

@xorlou @oldladyplays Enforcing heteronormativity means, through direct and indirect means, that there's more babies to groom (theyre very worried about birth decline, in any facet, due to the coming climate impacts they acknowledge behind closed doors, but reject openly), more men to groom into service, more control over the population, and a creation of a scapegoat to propagandize as "the problem" in order to not only distract, but maintain the hegemony of heteronormativity. The state, as its built and functions, NEEDS heteronormativity to function as it is. It has interwoven nearly all of its systems with it to such an extent that in the event of instability, it becomes one of the first things tightened—nearly always.

This is beyond the obvious effect of killing transgender people through lack of care leading to suicide. This is also a feature and intent, but its not the only one, and neither is scapegoating. They dont want their men to be anything but "men" so they can use them in their wars. They dont want their children to be independent because they are instrumental tools for political gain, and future laborers (and trans people tend to be less productive; this is likely due to 'overlapping' neurodivergence). They dont want people to be trans because it risks upending the board.

@xorlou @oldladyplays This cannot be reformed out. It is structural, and cultural (culture begets structures which replicate culture which produce more systems for it, etc). The modern nationstate, in kind, was born from heteronormative assumptions, and every state will act the same when inevitably put through the same instability that States inherently bring along with them, because "the state", as modernly conceived, is universally rooted in heteronormative assumptions.

The state will ALWAYS be an enemy to queerfolk. It may forget about us until crisis, but rest assured we are always painted a target when the time comes.

@oldladyplays i used to work for a university that did spacecraft development using NASA grants. I left in October because the university was bowing to state fascism.
Now they are crushing us via fiat again. I’m out of the system, but my heart is still back there, and their hatred is killing me. I want to be stronger, but they hurt me over and over again.
I know that my tears are what they want. But crying is the only way i can deal with this pain.
I wish i had someone to go to for solace from this, but I’m the elder in my tiny community. 😞😭
@aizuchi @oldladyplays I was also forced out of my government funded job last year for being trans. The wrong person found out I was trans and complied in advance with the executive orders to revoke credentials I needed to do my job.

@eleanor @aizuchi @oldladyplays

Idk if either of you have the energy for it, but I implore you to reach out to journalists if you do.

Erin in the morning is obviously a safe one for us. But also try The New Yorker. They've been really affirming of trans people and telling our stories.

I think we all need to be louder. Because even inside the community, I'm not hearing many stories like this, and I know they're out there.

We need the general public to hear our cries.

@CordiallyChloe i certainly didn't have energy for it at the time. Now that it's been a year...maybe. but I also dont think people really get how insidious it is when it happens. Technically, I was offered a choice: I could redo all my paperwork and check the M box or I could lose my credential. I refused to check the M box. I just don't know if cis people would be sympathetic to that position and it would look like my fault to them.

@aizuchi @oldladyplays

@eleanor @CordiallyChloe @oldladyplays i also want to believe that cis people will stand up for us … but i doubt it will happen in any significant way. The STEM fields are very project-focused, and if losing a person or two means success, they’ll do it. They’ve always done that for the bottom line, and now that it includes an ethical angle won’t make a big dent.
It was capitalism all along, who knew? 🤦🏻‍♀️🙄

@aizuchi @eleanor @oldladyplays

If we stay silent, nobody will ever hear us.

I know cis people have been failing us. But they also don't even know anything's happening. The bigots successfully took away our voices, so now we have to claw our way out of that hole and force people to hear us again.

I know it's hard. And I know it feels fruitless. But if we don't speak up now, then who will?

I don't blame you if you don't have the spoons for it. Some days I don't either. But if you can find it in yourselves, I think you should write to them. And I encourage every single trans person to do the same when they're directly affected by these actions.

It's the only way we can be heard.

@aizuchi @oldladyplays 🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂
@oldladyplays nothing quite like a post-cry headache, is there
@aizuchi @oldladyplays I'm so sorry. Writing can help, and this is a safe place to do it. There're lots of people here who feel your pain.
@ChristineMalec @oldladyplays ty 🫂 i don’t want to take these attacks personally, but dammit they are trying to erase my life. And the lives of other good people.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Gays, and I did not speak out because I was not a Gay.
Then they came for the Gipsies, and I did not speak out because I was not a Gipsy.
Then they came for the Arabs, and I did not speak out because I was not an Arab.
Then they came for the disabled, and I did not speak out because I was not a disabled.
Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak for me.
(from Reverend Father Martin Niemöller)

@A_Mimi @oldladyplays I always feel the need to point out that this poem was written by a Nazi for other Nazis. In jail!

@foundseed @oldladyplays

The way you expose this is misleading by ommission, and contravenes article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which states "Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance."
because if it is true that at start he supported the Nazis, he went to oppose them from 1933, that is to say from their accession to power, because of their anti-Semitism which actually leaded him to find himself in concentration camps from 1938 to 1945, Sachsenhausen then Dachau, and after he then never turned back in his entire life, evolving from warlike reactionary ideas (he was a submarine commander before becoming a Protestant priest) to militant pacifists ones until his death. (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Niem%C3%B6ller)

For once we have someone who claims to be a Nazi sympathizer at the beginning of Nazism, then turns into an opposition activist, defender of Human Rights because of their anti-Semitism and pacifist after having had a military career and not the opposite (i.e. these crowds of fascist opportunists from Hitler, Mussolini, Franco, to Musk, etc. who initially claim to be "socialists" or even "anarchists" before turning away for what we knows) shooting by omission in this way, it seems really suspicious to me because it is so unfair.

Martin Niemöller - Wikipedia

@oldladyplays Even better would be to stop these horrible rules which threaten lots of things. Congress could stop it, and so could the courts. Lots of groups are working on it -- more to come. https://www.defendpublichealth.org/press-release/congress-must-block-new-rules-federal-grants-defend-public-health-urges
Congress Must Block New Rules on Federal Grants, Defend Public Health Urges | Defend Public Health

New regulations issued last week by the Office of Management and Budget regarding federal research grants amount to a declaration of war on impartial, evidence-based science, and Congress must act quickly to overturn them, Defend Public Health said today.

@oldladyplays this shit just makes me want to crawl into a hole and die. That's what they want. It'd be a helluva lot easier than getting up every day. Sounds like a good deal to me. They get to check another abomination of the list and I get to stop feeling the weight. High fives all around.

Nobody with any authority or power cares. I just want to be allowed to exist, to live. I don't hurt anybody. I pay taxes. I obey the law.

I will never be good enough. It's like my abusive stepdad is running the entire government only there's nowhere for me to go, no way to escape.

Why do they hate so much?

I'll get up tomorrow. I'll keep getting up. I have to.

But it's not easy.

Edit: I'm a mentally ill, neurodivergent transgender woman living in a red state taking care of my disabled and neurodivergent cisgender wife. We can't move. We have no family nearby and no local friends. It's just us for each other.

@oldladyplays

While I agree with the reason, Canada is experiencing enough foreign interference in its affairs. Encouraging more may well backfire. Asking Canadians to lobby their own government would take away that talking point from conservative types.

@oldladyplays The magic word is "Distraction" from other things (to come).
@apnoe_soeren @oldladyplays Please don't do this. Whether a "distraction" or not, these measures are real and salient to the people targeted. You wouldn't want your personal safety to be described as a "distraction" would you?

@oldladyplays side-note: the last paragraph of the article has a link to the comment form for the rule. Please be sure to leave a comment in opposition of the rule and share it WIDELY with allies. (Avoid spaces with bigots; we don't want them getting their grubby paws on it)

Again, it may feel useless, but it's not. If nothing else, we can all say we signed our names *against* fascism.
