Good morning and a very happy Thatcher Day to you all! It's been 13 years today and she's still dead. 🎉

I often wonder who's been worse for the UK overall, Thatcher or the parade of self serving kleptocrats of more recent years. Farage and Johnson caused untold damage between them, and Farage may yet cause much more, but, honestly, they're just natural byproducts of Thatcher's project. She was the root cause, and all these sneering clowns who followed her are just minor characters in her play. She may be dead but the wounds she left us still bleed.

Let's make today the day when we grab a stake and check on her grave, just to be sure.

Always two there are: a master and an apprentice.
@bodil So much bad shit really started with Reagan and Thatcher...
@ainmosni All the bad shit, really.
@bodil Well, much of it was scattered around before, they packaged it all up, made it more effective, and modernised it.
@bodil Oh they did manage to have genocide, Jim Crow and nuking the shit out of places all without Reagan. To name just a few, in case anyone was wondering whether the Other Capitalist Party was better. #notallshit
@ainmosni
@viraptor @ainmosni @bodil Nope, start with #Goldwater, the one who wanted to succeed #Eisenhower who was the last decent Republican 🇺🇸 president. And continue with #Nixon.

@ainmosni @bodil

Oh goodness gracious no. They don’t start much at all. The US was destined to get to its neoliberal nirvana.

@BenHM3 @bodil I don't disagree with that, actually, but bad shit got streamlined, modernised, and better sold with those two. Granted, it most likely would have happened without them, but maybe a bit later.
@bodil root cause analysis = yes it was her.

@bodil yeah, I mean don't get me wrong I disagree with pretty much everything Thatcher stood for, but at least she did stand for something, and quite probably believed she was ‘doing the right thing’ even as it needlessly shattered community after community for generations.

These others? It's all just greed and grift.

@zbrown @bodil a more honest kind of evil...
@bodil My Dad, who is definitely not a fan, said he respected Thatcher because she stood for what she believed in. Most of the rest since have stood for whatever the Sun and the Mail have on their front page (and more recently, whatever people complain about on Facebook or Twitter)
@jonpsp It's the ones with a vision you really need to watch out for.
@bodil well. There we go. There is at least one thing that isn’t bad.
@bodil @otfrom I still love that I found out because someone posted "The Witch Is Dead" on the social playlist site I was using, and nobody needed any context.
@craignicol @otfrom The Wizard of Oz got a lot of playtime that day.

@bodil @otfrom true. I responded with this one though

@bodil @otfrom she's been out of power for 35 years but we still live in Thatcher's Britain. Labour had a chance to stem the bleeding, but they elected Blair instead
@bodil this is how national holidays get born I imagine
@bodil Can't blame the evil kankerous mud slut shit stain for the entire Tory party or the members of the UK public fucking stupid enough to vote them in. Be fair.
@megatronicthronbanks We can blame her for everything.

Donald Trump will need his own song, and of course the right artist(s) to sing it. Has to be representative of the many people Trump has demonized, murdered, persecuted and insulted. We need to have it ready to go on that great day.

@riggbeck @sjjh Makes me think of this song which has been mysteriously trending on Youtube for the past several months.

I caught myself singing this chorus recently, due to the current events:

The Day After You - The Blow Monkeys (feat. Curtis Mayfield)

which was written about Thatcher. I think it got even more radio play after the BBC had banned it. It's from this album https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/She_Was_Only_a_Grocer%27s_Daughter (and that's what she was)

As for a post-Drumpf song, I reckon audio of toilets flushing ought to be enough.

@bodil Sadly neo-liberalism lives on.
@bodil beautiful! You made my day, being 6.50 am over here! Thank you!
@bodil when is Trump day?
@gunstick @bodil going to need a bigger font (and bigger champagne bottles).
@gunstick @bodil I have the awful feeling that he'll live to 95, powered by pure spite.

@bodil there is a speech by a labour mp and actress that is worth watching today https://youtu.be/BRqdQMlIiYc?si=iTYHjB0oDDt_VT-f

@mattrose Brings a tear to the eye, to see a Labour politician with a spine. They don't have a lot of those anymore.
@bodil One of the greatest days in British history. Took the milk from 5yo kids as Education Secy. What a total c**t, entertained a genocidal monster as PM, had tiffin with Augusto Pinochet n No10. Best buddies. #ThatcherTheMilkSnatcher

@bodil

Beware the March of Trumps …

@bodil She also planned to bomb Dundalk. Her and Trump would be best friends, guaranteed

@bodil

I always refer to her as - Myopic Maggie.

@bodil
May her grave never be dry.

Worth mentioning though without direction - she'd just have been another mid-tier apparatchik.

RE: https://plasmatrap.com/notes/9lzb71uqet76ddph
@bodil I've learned so much revised *real* history from you lot, directly, than I ever learned from MSM. We just knew she was a leader. We did not know how hated she was.

@kimlockhartga @bodil

We utterly detested her. The first female PM this country got and it had to be a nasty one.

@grb090423 @kimlockhartga The first, and the second, and, uh, I still don't know what to make of Liz Truss.

@bodil @kimlockhartga

All nasty and all, funnily enough, bloody Tories!

🤦‍♀️😖

As for Truss... 🥬

@bodil la prima premier donna e nera d'Inghilterra
@bodil as is my tradition to mark this momentous occasion, here is glasgow activist & legend, cathy rutherford, with her beautiful eulogy for maggot thatcher.

@bodil In so much as she remains dead we must give thanks to those brave souls who stuffed her mouth with garlic, chopped off her head and in particular drove a stake through her heart. The latter being a feat of admirable precision given the minuscule target area. To think now how proud I was of progressive Britain in 1979 to have elected a woman.
@bodil *spit*
@mancavgeek @bodil Save it for her grave!!!
@sjcooke66 That's what the contents of my bladder are for!

@bodil

Looking forward to remembering Trump in the same way!

@bodil

I'm really looking forward to celebrating [Unalive] Trump Day. No doubt, so is most of the world.

@bodil Are we sure she's still dead? Wouldn't put it past that monster, let's go make sure that corpse is still in the ground. 🤭

I wish USians had the sense to celebrate similarly when Reagan finally kicked the bucket. Maybe we should start celebrating?

@JoscelynTransient @bodil You mean she might be out there somewhere still rocking with Elvis?
@the_wub @bodil if there is one thing Thatcher never did, it was “rock” 😂
@JoscelynTransient @the_wub I think even she would agree to that.
