If the 1950s were when America was Great, sure, I'd like to make it Great Again.

Folks like Douglas #Wilson were ignored as kooks. The three TV networks didn't bother with Idaho. The First Amendment was clear. The U.S. will not have a state religion.

Let us not allow history to be rewritten. The Puritans in MA wanted no part of the Church of England. Quakers moved to RI, NJ, and PA. Maryland was Catholic.

@wdlindsy Honestly I’d be delighted if far-right MAGA Catholics feel unwelcome by far-right MAGA evangelicals. Historically there has been deep enmity towards the Catholic Church by many fundamentalist sects — the current MAGA-associated truce is an anomaly. If MAGA lets its own internal prejudices tear it apart, I couldn’t be happier.

(There are six Supreme Court justices with Catholic backgrounds. I wonder how they feel about this administration’s anti-Catholic tendencies?)

@hugoestr @wdlindsy Arguably the supposed rapprochement was engineered over abortion by Falwell in the 1980s, a political expediency adopted because fundamentalists were no longer allowed to have segregated universities. Up to that time Protestants hadn’t viewed abortion as murder, and largely had hated the Catholics as idol-worshipping papists (if not The Whore of Babylon itself). It would be great to get back to that division.
