This #Easter I ask the world to listen to a powerful American
no, not that one
that one you continue to only consider with withering disgust, as is appropriate
this one:
"Let those who have weapons lay them down, let those who have the power to unleash wars choose peace! Not a peace imposed by force, but through dialogue!"
"He who has the power to unleash wars chooses peace." Pope Leo's appeal.
A plea to those in power who have the power to unleash wars to lay down their arms and choose peace, an exhortation not to remain indifferent to evil and violence, and an announcement of a prayer vigil for peace to be held on Saturday, April 11th. Pope Leo XIV appeared from the central balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City for the Easter message and blessing “Urbi et Orbi.”
In the message, delivered before the presence of approximately 50,000 faithful, the Pontiff urged a necessary change in a world stained by war. “In the light of Easter, let us be amazed by Christ! Let us let our hearts be changed by his immense love for us! Whoever holds weapons should lay them down! Whoever has the power to unleash wars should choose peace! Not a peace pursued with force, but with dialogue! Not with the will to dominate others, but to meet them!” Prevost stated, also recalling the words of Pope Francis in his last “Urbi et Orbi” message a year ago, returning to a concept denounced by his predecessor, the “globalization of indifference.” A trend that, the Pope recalled, cannot and must not prevail: “We are all afraid of death and out of fear we turn away, we prefer not to look. We cannot continue to be indifferent! And we cannot resign ourselves to evil!” “We are becoming accustomed to violence, we resign ourselves to it and we become indifferent – the Pope emphasized – Indifferent to the deaths of thousands of people. Indifferent to the repercussions of hatred and division that conflicts sow. Indifferent to the economic and social consequences that they produce and that we all sense.”
Appeals that were translated into concrete action: “Let us make heard the cry of peace that springs from the heart! For this, I invite everyone to join me in the prayer vigil for peace that we will celebrate here in St. Peter’s Square next Saturday, April 11th.” On the day of Easter, Pope Leo continues, therefore, to weave the fabric of peace because, as underlined in the homily of the mass presided over in St. Peter’s Square, death, although always “lurking,” is not “the final destiny of our lives.”

#Trump escalated threats against #Iran power plants, bridges & other infrastructure in an expletive-laden post on Truth Social on #Easter morning.
“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran,” Trump posted. “There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell — JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah.”
The profane threat, landed a few hours after #PopeLeo XIV issued a call for nations to choose #peace.
"Trump calls reporters from his Virginia golf course all day, telling multiple outlets he’s ready to 'blow up the whole country' [i.e., Iran] with 'very little' off the table."

"He called Iran’s leaders 'crazy bastards.' He signed off with a sarcastic invocation of Allah. He skipped church. The deadline is tomorrow. International law experts say the threatened strikes would constitute war crimes. The pope — an American, a Christian, the leader of 1.4 billion Catholics — has now directly appealed to Trump twice. The rest of the world is watching to see what Tuesday brings."

"WHAT AMERICAN READERS NEED TO KNOW: On Easter Sunday morning, while the world’s Catholics were gathering in Rome to hear the first American pope call for an end to the Iran war, the President of the United States was posting profanity on social media threatening to bomb Iran’s power plants and water infrastructure on Tuesday."
