RaymondPierreL3Aside from the naive characterisation of an SSN as an stand-in for a surface vessel, this article is very much a point by point description of the Australian-US relationships as mirrored by the #AUKUS Tier One ‘deal’ and its current woes.
Yet the author doesn’t take the opportunity presented ( publication in The Point) to review Tier Two as well. In fact, it is really an indictment of all reporting on AUKUS that none of them consider Tier Two in their articles. This is poor journalism doubtless spurred on by a public interest hell bent on Tier One, either in opposition to the cost or in support of the US Alliance.
The only exception to date was the reporting of closer cooperation in uncrewed boat payload modules at the conclusion of the Singapore meeting. But I think this had more to do with #Hegseth big talking US advances for what is primarily an Australian development (#GhostShark) given the USN has yet to confrim any design from those tendered while our is already commissioned and in active service (according to some press releases).
