Buying weapons from the U.S. now means you can pay for the weapons, but you only get your delivery if Trump feels like it.

@randahl PURL was a mistake. We should be using every available euro to support Ukraine from within Europe.

Money going towards US weapons is money not going to build another factory in Europe. The risk of the US weapons not arriving was always there.

that type of conditionality is baked into AUKUS and the US NDAA (FY 2024, section 1352), which explicitly gives the US an out ("...not degrade US undersea capabilities...and consistent with US foreign policy and national security interests") to not deliver on the subs. See also the AUKUS Congressional Research report RL32418 which suggested pulling that exact lever.
