just got a fascinating email trying to hire me as a consultant for my expertise in treating, uh, aortic stenosis
@0xabad1dea never even heard of this malware threat
@0xabad1dea hmm, what's the APT ID for aortic stenosis?
@0xabad1dea Did you write one too many post about heartbleed back in the day?

@0xabad1dea I have gotten multiple invitations to work in healthcare IT management. Not me? Maybe a namesake?

Or maybe it's the social graph at work. I am one degree from someone relevant but happily employed.

@0xabad1dea
Since you understand Chinese you must be able to do anything.

@0xabad1dea you HAVE watched House MD, so whatchoo griping about it?
@0xabad1dea
How much to give me a second opinion on my echocardiogram? I mean sure it may not be your niche but if the price is right...
@0xabad1dea so… i can’t count on you if i ever suffer from *checks notes* heartbreak? πŸ™ƒ
@0xabad1dea @alicemcalicepants Fake it β€˜till you make it. Right?!
Who’s with me?
*sounds of flatlining monitors*
@0xabad1dea Aortic stenosis? Like when the court reporter has a heart attack?
@0xabad1dea Have you tried to turn it off and on again?

@0xabad1dea Much to my chagrin, I share a first and last name with a GI doctor.

SO MUCH medical recruiting spam, with some insane numbers for take home if I'm willing to do 12+ surgeries a day.

I'm down to wishing for persistently annoying misfortune to strike the data brokers who have merged my contact information with his data, because it's a losing fight doing anything else like opting out and chasing down individual brokers as I find them doing so.

@0xabad1dea are you implying we *can't* solve everything with tech??
@0xabad1dea I got a cold call yesterday from someone trying to pitch me on some sort of AI "visibility" platform. They had my name right, but everything else wrong and they did that thing where they tried to just keep talking. Had to very abruptly cut them off. Pretty sure a whole lot of people are asking ChatGPT for people's contact info and getting erroneous results. In this case, I think they had me confused with the head of software engineering for AMC.
@0xabad1dea I also think people are scraping social media with AI agents trying to find people who've expressed interest in certain topics. Had a headhunter try very actively to recruit me for a job and the job did pertain to a bunch of subjects I've written about, worked in, etc.
Seems to have missed the fact that I'm very adamantly against using these tools to KILL PEOPLE. Yes, I'm interested in drones. Yes, I'm interest in AI. Yes, I've done a lot of work with robotics.
@Infoseepage @0xabad1dea I keep getting these calls from recruiters that seem to assume I'm some AI expert. It's a very flattering pitch, full remote, high 6 figures with a signing bonus, which is how I know it's not for my industry.
@0xabad1dea Well, I do have a severe foraminal stenosis in my neck vertebrae, would you mind taking a look? 😬 πŸ˜„
@0xabad1dea wasn't it just a spam?
@torf no. it appeared to be a real business that really does specialize in connecting medical experts to businesses that need specialized advice. I get random emails meant for other people with similar legal names surprisingly often, considering neither my first name nor my last is particularly common.
@0xabad1dea I’m getting a lot of spam where they try to sell me contact for medical professionals/conference attendees. Too many of my namesakes are doctors, one of them is into LLMs in healthcare 😬
@0xabad1dea I'm a computer person too, but if you give me a stiff drink I'll give it a go.

@0xabad1dea

They needed help performing a core dump.

@0xabad1dea
Fake it til you make it.
