Access to Odin photos is a privilege contingent on not being the reason I’m regretting the internet today.

just as a general interest fyi, some of the NIST timeservers have failed due to an extended power outage in Boulder, Colorado. Someone here probably has an interesting enough job to suffer knock-on effects. https://groups.google.com/a/list.nist.gov/g/internet-time-service/c/o0dDDcr1a8I

interestingly, the outages reported this year, or indeed the last two or three years, on that mailing list are heavily clustered in the last few weeks.

Published by the National Woman Suffrage Publishing Company in 1917, this little book's pages are entirely blank. More on it here: https://publicdomainreview.org/collection/why-women-should-not-vote
It is very foggy today and we are giving the few other park-goers the “leviathan emerging from the mists” experience (the leviathan wants cuddles) #dog #dogs #dogsofmastodon

Today I learnt about _this_. Basically it is a 29x29 grid of Chinese characters which are at once poetry, philosophy, mathematics, and a "please come back" love note to the 21-year-old author's husband who'd left her...

And _all of it works_. Like, mind-blowingly well. (Yes, she got her husband back, and they lived happily together into old age.)

@0xabad1dea I don't know if you knew about this, but if you don't, you _should_...

new level of A/B Hell: we watched an English-language video on youtube, and at the end, when it showed thumbnails of two of the guy's other recent videos, one had a forcibly auto-translated "Dutch" title and the other had the real title.

@EdVonSchleck Odin wears a halter (sometimes called a "gentle leader") because his fur is so thick that if you attach a leash to his neck, he doesn't feel it at all, and is completely unaware of what you're trying to signal to him. It was a nightmare to walk him until we switched to the halter when he was six months old; he feels a gentle tug on his chin and he understands clearly which way we're turning or that we want him to stop. It was an immediate dramatic improvement, because he wasn't being difficult and disobedient on purpose.

He found the straps annoying for the first few weeks, but soon no longer thought about them at all. It doesn't prevent him from eating, drinking or otherwise using his mouth freely. (You can't see them in most photos, but there are straps that go around the back of his head as well as his nose.)

Wow, the fee went up just in time for Christmas... 😒

@Wilmz Odin actually doesn’t seem too interested in swimming! Possibly because when he was a puppy, he didn’t realize that canals don’t work like ponds and fell in head-first into deep water.
