Okay so winter and cold weather cycling I know. Anybody have tips on cycling in a skirt and/or dress?

@cargot_robbie I've always worn bike shorts underneath and scooped all the fabric forward over the seat, same as a long winter coat. Good for modesty & comfort but also prevents chafing. Or leggings if colder.
I've never been successful with the rubber band + coin method of clasping back to front, but trying a knot works with long & thin fabric. Just let a short skirt fly up - that's what bike shorts are for.
On the bike side, skirt guards are a must.
@cargot_robbie I own skorts and dresses that have skorts. Many sportswear make them, and if you just want to wear the dresses / skirts you already own, wear shorts underneath.
I donβt recommend wearing long skirts because that can be dangerous. I only bike in shorter skirts.
@cargot_robbie They donβt need to be miniskirts but be mindful of the skirt being stuck on parts of the bike while youβre moving. Thatβs why I try to avoid any excess fabric especially around the legs. Safety first!
You can try a shorter skirt and leggings? That can be a cool look, a bit retro and stylish. And protects your legs. How about that?

I wear a kilt all year long and what happens happens π
Bike shorts/dance shorts β learned from experience, *not your skincolor*. Matching your skin is elegant as under layer but people on the road think youβre flashing and drive badly.
If skirt, I often just took it off for the ride. Dress, kirtled up if full; straight dresses are hard to keep unwrinkled. Skirt guards help. High winds donβt.
Slow breezy ride with a skirt guard, really comfortable.
@cargot_robbie My main requirement is that the cross bar be low enough to stand over it with both feet on the ground and not have it push the skirt way up.
Otherwise no issues, aside from ensuring to tie a knot in any long skirt so it doesn't get caught.
I never bother wearing shorts underneath. It's not generally an issue. Though once a guy driving the other way yelled out "I can see your pussy"! Which puzzled me, as I definitely had underwear on.
@PapyrusBrigade Yeesh, the harassment is real. Screw that guy, I hope he falls in mud.
Tying skirts will take some practice. I'm at least glad my bike is bottom-heavy, I don't need my bike tipping over while I'm stopped at a light in skirts too
@cargot_robbie While I don't wear skirts myself, I'll note that skirtguards for bikes are relatively inexpensive (and also there are patterns to crochet one's own if one is so inclined).
Since getting a Dutch "omafiets" I have no more worries about ruining loose trouser cuffs in the chain, since the chain is fully enclosed. Though, investing in a whole new bike may be more than any convenience is worth to you.
@cargot_robbie maybe check out the poupoupidou, a magnetic skirt clip for cycling?
@oook @cargot_robbie awesome!
