✅ Wayout Backyard Ultra | 21 Yards (140K)

Phew 🤠. Started 20:00 Friday and ran until 17:00 Saturday. I beat my backyard ultra PB with 1 yard. Not much and I definitely had bigger ambitions. Yet this was what I had: smashed quads and sore legs made it clear that I would just reach for beating my old 20 yards 🙃.

Colleague Mads was there too 🤩 - so awesome.

Lovely race. Rained at night. But clear at day. Back next year 💯

Didn’t want to show this weird eyes photo … but at least it’s the official DNF photo of me. So here you go 🤣. Note that because I was among the last ones (everything relative) I even got a nice backyard ultra specifically made t-shirt 😎😎

@moelholm You just look *tired*, which, I think is reasonable, considering.
@WTL hahah nice of you to say. Also I was extremely tired after “letting go”. I fell a sleep with the remote control in my hand apparently according to my wife’s morning report 🤣🤣 (also don’t recall I actually saw anything tv 🤔🤔)
@moelholm Hahah. Guess you were really tired. Great effort!
@moelholm
Kids, don't do drug
@randomized haha yeah not flattering. But that’s what ultras make you look sometimes 😅
@moelholm "free" t-shirt \o/ but were there cake?
@woollypigs haha no race official cake - but we all had our stash of foods (read: cake, sweats and candy 🤣). It’s quite interesting to see how unhealthy all those sports freaks eat at backyards 😂😂
@moelholm yeah the backyard ultras I've seen on YouTube is more a big barbecue picnic than a run ;)

@moelholm

I know your mileage may (literally) vary, but 140+ is incredibly impressive. Congratulations. Now, I hope you can relax and recover.

@askekammer thank you so much 🤗🤗🥱😴🛏️😆
@moelholm wow, 140k is very impressive 💪🏼! And (despite the suffering) by the looks of it also a lot of fun 😁
@JvdB thank you 🙏🏻 yeah hehe it is *always* worth it. Backyard ultras is for sure one of my absolute favorites - the format makes it so incredibly social. Until the end where not many are left … then it can feel a bit lonely (in the shared tent and even at times on the run). But for 90% it’s pure social running 🤗. It seems easy. But it gets super hard late race … because you can DNF any time at your own choosing. Unlike A-B races. And it can difficult to make the cutoff late race
@moelholm
Lol what can I say...
Well done, impressive and inspiring as always

Impressive! Congrats! 💪🎉
Looks like a very nice event 👍

@moelholm Congratulations! What a distance 🎉🎉

What did you do in your second last lap? Did you try to break the sound barrier? 🤣

@aramloosman thank you 🙏🏻😀. Oh you noticed that? Haha that was just me thinking “oh screw it … if this is my last round I’ll just give it some good tempo” 😆. Turns out that was a totally pain free round 🤯🤯. Most bizarre experience ever. Like suddenly I got new legs. And after it I figured I couldn’t (weren’t willing to?) repeat it but I surely had enough for a 21 PB “if I could do that” 🙃. Probably evidence that my physical situation wasn’t critical. Lazy central governor😉
@moelholm Yeah done the same last fall on BYU. For me it was my last lap, I ran together with a fast runner and it was amazing to feel the difference. But it makes sense I guess. After 10+ hours using the same muscles in the same way fatigue will settle in. Using a different movement pattern breaks things up a bit.
