❝Just like in an ultra, when those pessimistic thoughts hit at the lowest points, giving up not only sounds reasonable, it seems like the best possible outcome. It’s in those moments that if you can retain a bit of hope, you just may be able to come out the other side.

❝Truth be told, this is where being on marathon number thirty-eight bears fruit. […] Just knowing that’s possible sets the experienced marathoner apart from the oh-my-god-I’m-gonna-die-at-[mile-]twenty-one runner.

20 days out from the Cocodona 250 and the nerves have arrived in full force….
last week I did 8 runs on 5 days summing up to a total of 110km of #running with almost 3000m elevation gain. plus a few km on the bike, a bit of hiking and one strength training session.
for this week I try to focus a little bit more on elevation and after that: tapering for the #K110 at #IATF, the #innsbruckalpinetrailrunfestival.

My intention with the VertMatch.run app has been enabling me to compare my training for current race to a previous race.
I now reached that point. It's now possible to select a past activity as a baseline race. The software fetches 3 months of trainign data for that event and you can then compare how you did then vs. now.
If you want to try:

I signed up for the Lone Wolf South West Backyard Ultra again, and very much look forward to it. With proper footwear this time I should be able to do more than my 13 laps from last year.
❝“Just drop out,” [the mind monkeys] whispered.
[race unfolds and…]
It was a season’s best by nearly four seconds, a Masters PR by well over two, and a good reminder to keep going when your initial instinct is to call it quits.
