more keyboards should have obtuse parts. things that aren't needed. switches that will never be touched.

num lock. static lock. try. try not. F15. unpipe and unpipe 2.

@NanoRaptor try not. That's my button.
@NanoRaptor magic 8-ball ass keyboard
@NanoRaptor now I need "try not" and "do not" keys on my keyboards...
@NanoRaptor If I ever used that I'd be constantly anxious I'd hit the "lightsabre" button and get cut in half.
@NanoRaptor I want a Do Not button on my work computer
@NanoRaptor keys reserved for when you see a good post.
@mike @NanoRaptor oh, the Sun keyboard. I have to admit props wasn't used very often. But right below that you have the copy and paste keys. Why we have to live with control-c like rubes I will never understand.
@loke @mike @NanoRaptor Someone thought Microsoft’s already bad copying of copying was worth copying even worse.
@loke on the FR azerty keyboard, we have a dedicated key for the letter ù. It is used in exactly ONE WORD in French. @mike @NanoRaptor
@switch @mike @NanoRaptor now I'm curious, what word is that, and how in earth did it end up on the keyboard? I suspect the story about that is only available in french.
@loke it's the word où which means where. @mike @NanoRaptor
@switch @mike @NanoRaptor I see, so presumably it was seen as common enough? Perhaps they should have made the button just emit that word. 😀
@mike @NanoRaptor I may have had a Type 5 keyboard with “(Mad)” sharpied on the Props key in the past
@NanoRaptor an 'any' key that produces a random keypress
@NanoRaptor No. Try not. Do.

Is this a motivational keyboard?

@aetios @NanoRaptor

Yes it is. It motivates you to use the Force.

@NanoRaptor "No. Try not. Do!"

ed: ...ahaha, and then I parsed the line below. Beautiful.

@Tamber @NanoRaptor <lightbulb!> thx. This is a dank joke, masquerading as a 70’s tech photo.
@NanoRaptor still can't see the any key they keep talking about
@NanoRaptor Just because they're not needed, doesn't mean someone won't try to Force them.

@NanoRaptor. the best part of an oversized custom keyboard is figuring out how to bind and label all the surplus keys.

I have had "Less Rawr" (media stop), "Attack 0" (programmable macro), "Button 4" (emulates mouse button 4), and "憎恨" (shifts to altrrnate bindings) keys

@NanoRaptor

Is there a physical interlock to stop me from pressing "DO" and "DO NOT" at the same time? I really want to try that 🤪

@isol @NanoRaptor That just resets everything. You’r e reset to the delivery room an go from there. Be very careful with this combo.

Actually, might be worth it these days to just give it a whirl.

@isol @NanoRaptor Schrödinger's keypress.
@NanoRaptor I want a “No” key
@Wifiwits @NanoRaptor that's easy -turn the ON key upside down.

@NanoRaptor there is no try, only do, or do not.

Love those bottom 6 keys

@NanoRaptor I'm looking hard, I can see the Do, and I can see the Do Not, but there doesn't appear to be a Try

Is this Yoda's keyboard?

@NanoRaptor

THINK
RHINO

UP
SOAR

YES
NESS

@NanoRaptor reading from last key on the second-latest row it’s literally “do or do not, there’s no try”
@NanoRaptor I need that „DO NOT“ key on my keyboard to instruct my PC accordingly.

@NanoRaptor oh gods this one makes my brain hurt because half of these _really could_ be real buttons on old specialty keyboards

spectacular

@NanoRaptor now I want to hear yoda talk about double line feeds
@NanoRaptor I have panic on mine... Although TBH I use that quite a bit.
@NanoRaptor need to have a button that says "please do not press this button" that lights up a sign that says "please do not press this button again"
@NanoRaptor I was hoping for an adjustment screw capslock
@NanoRaptor
Exactly. Give me a button that says 'Close All Distractions' and another one that says 'Generate Profit.' 🥂💰 I’ll leave the 'Unpipe 2' switch for the museums! 😂
@NanoRaptor The single coil pickup was a fantastic innovation in desktop keyboard design. Another victim of modern cost cutting unfortunately.
@NanoRaptor The Yoda quote in the last two rows is very funny but I'm having a lot of fun imagining a different scenario where those buttons were added over time and the keyboard designer is slowly going mad trying to include a way to tell the computer not to set up OneDrive backup &c.
@NanoRaptor
Microsoft is already there, pushing for the copilot button.
@NanoRaptor no but no yes. Or but no and. Thats cursed!
@NanoRaptor But where's the any key?

@NanoRaptor > Do
> Do Not
> Try

wtf is "try"

@saxnot @NanoRaptor "Try" is crossed out. So what is the difference between "Try not" and crossed out "Try"? 🤣

@NanoRaptor

It's definitely Yoda's keypad.

"No. Try not. Do. Or Do Not. There is no Try."

(Assuming "Try" with a line through it means "No Try")

@NanoRaptor
From the days of the c64 and radio shack micros, there have been deadspace keys.
@NanoRaptor I have tried MS Powertoys to remap my keyboard and turn the CoPilot button back to Ctrl.
The button appeared as F23. I wonder what these would appear as? Presumably they wouldn't be recognized as as "Try Not" or similar.
BTW your keyboard breaks the Yoda principle ("DO or DO NOT, there is no TRY"), as there is indeed a "TRY".
@NanoRaptor  I got a theory re: the screws, but I need to see a full photo of the entire keyboard first, please
@NanoRaptor that’s why a true professional insists on
@NotTheLBCGuy that is *glorious* and would use.
@NanoRaptor @NotTheLBCGuy I was one click away from ordering that one. Problem was I had already ordered this (and was still waiting for it at the time). Less glorious in terms of number of keys, but much nicer feel (it's got proper buckling springs)
