more keyboards should have obtuse parts. things that aren't needed. switches that will never be touched.

num lock. static lock. try. try not. F15. unpipe and unpipe 2.

@NanoRaptor that’s why a true professional insists on
@NotTheLBCGuy that is *glorious* and would use.
@NanoRaptor @NotTheLBCGuy I was one click away from ordering that one. Problem was I had already ordered this (and was still waiting for it at the time). Less glorious in terms of number of keys, but much nicer feel (it's got proper buckling springs)

@loke I *can* hear this photo.

@NanoRaptor @NotTheLBCGuy

@InkomTech @NanoRaptor @NotTheLBCGuy my computer is in the bedroom. My wife also tells me she can hear it.

@loke

Judge: this divorce petition has ‘fucking keyboard’ down for cause. Is this a JD Vance thing?

No, your honor. <shows photo>. In. Our. Bedroom.

Judge: Ah. Yes… a _classic_ example of Irreconcilable differences. <breaks out the ‘Approved’ stamp>

@NanoRaptor @NotTheLBCGuy

@NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor Nice, but not the original Lispm space-cadet keyboard.

@larsbrinkhoff @NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor

If you do not want a Recreated Model F keyboard, then perhaps a recreated Space Cadet is more your thing?

Keymacs

Keymacs Mechanical Keyboards

@lproven @NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor I'm looking for something to replace/supplement my aging Happy Hacking keyboards. Keymacs looks interesting, but not for > $1000.
@lproven @NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor For that amount I'd rather make my own Knight keyboard.

@larsbrinkhoff @NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor

Yes, they are _extremely_ spendy.

I am intrigued all the same, and want to try one.

@lproven @larsbrinkhoff @NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor That has far fewer keys than I expected an Emacs keyboard to have.
@NotTheLBCGuy
what company makes them again? remember seeing this fully custom keyboard company doing this sort of thing and i dont remember the name
@NanoRaptor

@zardoz03 @NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor

The Recreated Model F keyboards are here:

Brand New Model F Keyboards – The Model M Predecessor: Mechanical Capacitive Buckling Spring Keyboards with NKRO

@lproven
distinctly remember it being a space cadet/emacs specific custom keyboard company, definitely sure it wasnt that
@NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor

@NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor
The product page for that monster is something in itself.

@sheddi @NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor mechanical glory from Suffolk… I particularly enjoyed “The Hyper7 has enough keys to easily explain to your significant other why this keyboard was more important than the new car you've been saving up for”
@NotTheLBCGuy I don’t see the ”ARM” and ”FIRE” keys.
@NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor Does the “SMOL” key make something adorably little?
@michaelgemar @NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor EVERYTHING IS CAPS LOCK BY DEFAULT AND SMOL MAKES IT smol? The keyboard for owning libs?

@NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor Looked at it for a second. Immediately overwhelmed

What does the key between the space ~bar~ keys do?

@K4mpfie @NanoRaptor it can be configured to do whatever you want, but by default it momentarily activates Layer 1.
@NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor Okay I think I need to read up on this keyboard some more 😅No idea what Layer 1 is, but given the logic operators on the keys I would guess it's some sophisticated calculators from the last millennium...
@K4mpfie @NanoRaptor Layers are how you add extra functions to keys. For example Shift is a layer that makes the a key type A instead. Alt is a layer that makes the s key send the Save command instead. With programmable keyboards you define your own layers to make any key do anything you want.
@NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor Thanks for the explanation :))
@NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor I've finally got my Emac setup the way I like it

@NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor reminds me a little of the stickers my dad had on his keyboard showing all the functions of all the keys in all combinations, for WordPerfect 5.1 - 3 rows of colourful cryptic abbrev. above every key!

Or the 24-F-key things I had to use for ancient IBM monsters. Everybody just typed in the commands, easier to remember.

@NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor we add an АЗ-5 key and it's the one true board

@NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor the space cadet caps 😍

I came so close to getting in on that group buy back in the day…

@NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor
No,, that is still missing some keys a(pl) true professional requires.

@NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor @dannotdaniel

This keyboard made me cum

@rusty__shackleford @NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor I like where they put caps lock

way the fuck out of my way

@rusty__shackleford @NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor @dannotdaniel i don't really like having the caps lock in the far top right like that.

@NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor

Where do I find one of these magnificent creations?! 😍

@NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor I assume the EOF key is there to reduce the number of keystrokes required when frequently typing the name ‘Geoffrey’.
@NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor Is it really a keyboard if you don't have SUPER HYPER and META keys?
@philpem @NanoRaptor right of the right-hand space bar is SUPER HYPER META.
@NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor huh. that grey on light blue is a real pig. I thought they were blank keys.
@philpem @NanoRaptor yeah it’s not the most accessible 😕 Unfortunately when I bought this there was literally only this keyset to fit it (there is another one now but no way am I investing more in this behemoth now).

@NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor

*wipes away a tear of nostalgia*

Also, the processor & software to which these were connected!

@NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor god I would love a behemoth like this, but
1) my desk is not big enough
2) it would require a mortgage to afford
3) didn't it use foam and foil switches that disintegrate into pure nastiness
@techokami @NanoRaptor nope, this one is using mechanical switches.
@NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor 👀 well that solves the third point but the first and second points are still showstoppers
@NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor desperately need one of these 🤩
@NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor It even has the PlayStation buttons. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤣

@NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor I like the key for grateful people with a slight stammer

t-thank you!

@NotTheLBCGuy @NanoRaptor That old school blue is lovely.
