#Misinformation warning

A story about seven dogs being stolen and then escaping to return home is spreading like wildfire on social media.

Even White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt has shared it to be viewed by 1.5 million people.

The problem is, the story is completely made up.

As CNN writes here, the story has even been debunked by local authorities — not in the US, as Karoline Leavitt thinks, but in China where the story originated.

@randahl Oh, bugger.

@davep @randahl

I was always partly sceptical about it, but given the original video appears to be real, if anything its at least a credit to Chinese motorists (and/or their civil engineering) that all the doggos were able to walk next to a 100-120 km/h highway with live traffic and all got home safely..

The corgi being in charge was always suspicious
@randahl the biggest misinformation here is Leavitt pretending to have a heart
@randahl "Even WH spread the lie." Acting as usual, WH spread lies.
@randahl She doubtlessly felt that it was better than being eaten in Springfield. 🙄
@randahl Social media’s ability to proliferate mis-info & fake images/videos will surely increase skepticism, which will breed new mis-info, as we spiral into wasteland.

@randahl Thank you for letting us know it wasn’t real.
@randahl
I need to find a course on how to identify fake video. Having said that, even I could tell this one was fake. Never have I ever seen a dog or dogs that have traveled for miles on their own without food or water look as healthy and well groomed as these dogs look.
@randahl
May I recommend a FALSE watermark on the image? I read it before your post, like Inimagine most people do, and assumed it was at least presented as true.
@randahl UPDATE: the corgi is now the head of FEMA. "He's only a little guy, but this is way more heartwarming than teleporting to Waffle House"
