Is poker a sport?

I think so!

I believe this perspective is what separates a winning poker player (A Superior Poker Player) from the gamblers

@ferret_stack I really like your cursive. I'm always workshopping my own, so I love to see how other people do it (to steal). Your f is of particular interest...

I guess OCR probably doesn't work great for idiosyncratic cursive. Have you considered adding your own alt text? Plenty of people benefit from it.

@hwll @ferret_stack

I agree with a need of alt text.

@hwll ‘f’ may have been the first letter I spent time on practicing when I was trying to improve my handwriting

I’ve attached a little diagram of how I do it. The one on the right shows the ‘loop’ a bit better

Thanks for the alt text suggestion, I will include going forward!

@ferret_stack I love this! I have similar little diagrams to myself in the margins of my notes

This feels like it could use a #cursive or #handwriting hashtag... #cursiveMeta? #cursiveWorkshop?

Anyway I'm hungry for this kind of stuff and I find not many people really get into it, despite the fact that us cursive sickos would lap it up like the latest lamy limited edition aubergine ink pack

@hwll oooh I’m still figuring out the various hashtags. I’ll give some of those a go!

Finding a new way to write a letter is an exciting thing to discover! I haven’t added a new style for a while, but I love seeing other people’s handwriting for inspiration

@ferret_stack

Do you play poker? And if yes, do you consider yourself a sportsman or a gambler?

@backtoanalog A sportsman

When I started out, I was certainly more of a gambler. Not because I was careless (quite the opposite; too careful!) but I think, unless you come from chess, you have to start as the gambler when picking up poker

I’ve been studying it for 3 years and it’s only the past year that I feel I embody the sportsman

I’m trying to profile the ‘superior poker player’ and these morning thoughts were my first foray into this little task of mine (:

Do you play at all, or chess?

@ferret_stack

Yes, I play. Mostly cash games at 2/5 blinds. I only play livce games. I love looking at the players and making a read. I love a good bluff. I think I am a sportsman because I hate losing and I always play to win. Chess isn't the game I am great at, but I can play. I have a high rating in Russian checkers though.

@backtoanalog oh cool! I play online

I’ve made some YT vids if interested: https://youtu.be/QtmYnRMFj4g

I’d argue the sportsman doesn’t turn up just to win, that’s secondary, but to play their best game

In poker you can play your best game but still lose (stoicism is important therefore to a poker player)

I agree with the exploit angle you mentioned as sportsman however-

Identifying an overfolded spot and bluffing with a hand that has no right to win feels great! 😂

@ferret_stack

I agree. I love a great bluff! When I leave the table, I always think back and analyze how I played and which hands I should've played differently. Stoicism is absolutely important. It took me a minute to get that part. 😂
