Just for the cringe, I checked the gas price yesterday at the place I usually buy at. The cost of regular is up 75 cents per gallon, from 2.749 to 3.499 (27%).

My home heating oil has gone up even more. I did a prepaid purchase last fall at 3.27/gal. It’s now 5.37, a 64% increase. I still have about a 100 gals of the prepay, but since it’s been colder than expected this fall/winter, I’ll need to do another top off to get me thru to next fall.

My wallet says ouch

@FurryBeta Natural gas is going to surge in price too.
@DeltaWye @FurryBeta unlike petroleum, the data evidence I've seen inclines me to believe most of the sources saying we still have ample NG reserves in the ground to last us at least another 20-50 years (accounting for a two to fourfold increase in demand). Prices will climb as other fuels do because people need to get the energy from somewhere, but it's unlikely to be a major source of attrition, at least not in North America. Which is good: that's what makes the fertilizer that grows our food.

@earthshine @DeltaWye I haven’t looked it up recently, but yeah, we’ve got plenty of of natural gas and oil reserves.

IIRC, unfortunately, most of our oil isn’t really good for refining into gasoline and no. 2 oil/diesel, and our natural gas boom was mainly due to fracking technology, which isn’t a great way to drill for gas

@FurryBeta @DeltaWye I was gonna correct you but yes, as long as we're counting oil we can't reasonably get to and extract for less than the amount of energy we would gain from it, sure, we *do* have plenty of oil left in the ground... but that extraction cost to separate kerogen from shale, added to the difficulty in reaching ever deeper deposits means at some point it becomes non viable, and at our currently still exponentially growing burn rate, that's soon.
@earthshine @DeltaWye If I post something that’s factually wrong, please do correct me. So much of what I say is based off my memory of a topic, and the info on that topic may be out dated or superseded, or I might just be remembering wrong
@DeltaWye Yeah. Our fearful, clueless, so called leader is going to send the world into a economic crash

@FurryBeta It’s like the steamroller scene in Austin Powers. Can see it from a mile away.

People (including family) criticized me when I moved money out of investments last year.

@DeltaWye I pulled a lot if my 401k into annuities. Still have a fair amount in stock and mutual funds tho. Currently doing ok, but I’m sure that won’t last

@FurryBeta It's up over $5/gal for 91 here (we always pay more at the local gas station since it's so remote).

Ugh.

@notthatdelta This Epstein diversion is going to cost all of us big time

@FurryBeta Hey, as long as numbers go up, right?

We live in the worst timeline.

@notthatdelta You know there’s soooo much insider trading going on right now in trumps inner circle. They’ll make sure their line goes up
@FurryBeta 100%, and they're not even trying to hide it at this point.

@FurryBeta yup. But to be honest, it fits the trends that I had already created a few years ago when I was doing cost of living.

I need to actually finish insulating this house now, and I'm debating installing solar panels as well because the payoff is quickly going from 20 years to 10 or less...

I'm putting in a heat pump and moving away from petroleum too, generally, I just want to move away from oil based products.

@Denton After I bought the place, I had insulation done thru mass save. They did just the attic insulation and door weather stripping for the air sealing. My biggest next thing is replacing the windows. They’re mainly single pane with a “storm window” to provide a little more insulation. I have a mini split, but the location is such that none of the air gets to the bedrooms (Brrr!), so that means central hvac. I’m looking at solar some too. A plug-in system would be great
