So the US knew the location of the Iranian ship off Sri Lanka bc both the US and Iran were part of a military exercise hosted by India which the US pulled out of at the last minute, presumably so as to bomb the unarmed Iranian ship.
The former Indian FM:
@AlisonCreekside
Taking out an unarmed warship and then bragging about how tough that makes them is 100% on-brand for this MAGA regime.
@fname Sinking an unarmed ship that was part of a naval exercise of 74 countries must be what Hegseth meant when he boasted that the US operation against Iran was not following any “stupid rules of engagement”.

@AlisonCreekside
“When we fight, we fight to win

**Against people who can’t fight back.

@fname @AlisonCreekside
Killing schoolchildren and bombing hospitals is Americans way of “winning”. Makes me furious!

@fname @AlisonCreekside
War is not about being nice. It is about being in a position to force the other side, or having leverage in negotiations.

Iran has its own advantages: home bases, being able to selectively block Hormuz (only Iranian oil flows through).

That ship was on its way to be a tool in that blockade, and the US is trying to lift that blockade. The first thing it needs is to get rid of the Iranian war ships.

@tzafrir

The US has not declared war yet, AFAIK. A few decades ago, a certain Roosevelt called a strike by the Japanese against the US Naval Base Pearl Harbour - without declaring War first - a 'Day of infamy', in his famous speech.

Teddy was right.

@AlisonCreekside @fname

How is this not a crime? They are admitting to murder.

@chu @AlisonCreekside @fname it is a crime. Absolutely. But, as with all crimes, it's really only enforcement that matters.

@Hex @chu @AlisonCreekside @fname

(And don't forget the crime of just leaving any survivors to drown.)

@AlisonCreekside @fname It's all so shameful and they don't even realize they should be embarrassed of themselves for spouting such nonsense.

@AlisonCreekside @fname
Nowadays civilian ships are either cargo ships with a small team or cruise ship.

This was not one. This is a war ship that belonged to some branch of the Iranian armed forces (military or Revolutionary Guard).

@AlisonCreekside The reprisals for Operation Epstein Fury will make the 2001 WTC attack look like the 1993 WTC attack.
@jackeric @AlisonCreekside
And just when NY is becoming the beacon of hope in that cursed land...
@AlisonCreekside if this can be confirmed this is a pretty massive crime on the US side.

@meuwese "At least 87 Iranian sailors were killed in the attack on the Iris Dena. The frigate was sailing in international waters as it returned from a naval exercise organised by India in the Bay of Bengal.
The torpedo strike prompted questions from former US officials about whether Washington’s aim of eliminating all of Iran’s military breached international law. ...

“An American submarine sank an Iranian warship that thought it was safe," said Pete Hegseth, the ex-Fox News host now leading the Pentagon as defence secretary.

The ship was transiting home after participating in training exercises hosted by the Indian navy at the time of the strike. India had convened naval assets from 74 countries for a March exercise."

US submarine sinks Iranian warship as conflict spreads beyond Middle East

Frigate goes down off Sri Lanka as Washington and Israel step up their offensive and promise to hit ‘deeper’ targets in Iran

The Guardian

@AlisonCreekside @meuwese

Is the attack on this ship -within this probably illegal war- really a war crime?

It was a war ship of a conflicting party, and they had time to sail to a neutral harbour (Saturday to Wednesday morning) with the highly chance of getting into internment, the captain obviously decided against.

And would have been the submarine be obligated to help the survivors?

So, I'm no lawyer, but I'm really interesed how this handled by law. Not from a moralistic point of view.

@meuwese @AlisonCreekside

Yes, Felonious POTUS and Sec.Hegseth particularly enjoy blowing up defenseless vessels. They are both homicidal maniacs

@AlisonCreekside
How low can the US go? Apparently to the waterline and far, far lower.
@AlisonCreekside What sort of fucking animals lead this country? American forces sank a ship they knew to be defenceless, didn't offer to aid the survivors, and fucking claimed the high ground? The list of war crimes out of this is phenomenal.

@thecampbell @AlisonCreekside

They've been sinking defenceless ships for months and patting themselves on the back though. Just look at the Gulf of Mexico.

@thecampbell @AlisonCreekside

Sadistic child-raping planetwreckers, that's who.

This is the kind of behavior everyone should expect from war profiteers. They have no conscience, no hearts, no decency of any kind. The same types of people who love chasing homeless people back and forth across town, throwing away all their belongings at every turn. The same types of people who deny health insurance to the sick so they can keep more profits to buy yachts with. The same types of people who clearcut old growth forests, poison rivers, charge money for vaccines, cover up the science of cigarette health risks, sneer at empathy, hate democracy, and invest in mass surveillance instead of mitigating climate change.

They're not even hiding the fact that they want to be supervillains anymore.

Monsters. We are being ruled by monsters.

IRIS Dena ship sunk by US Submarine torpedo: Why was the Iranian ship in the Indian Ocean?

A US submarine sank Iran's warship IRIS Dena in the Indian Ocean. The incident occurred within Sri Lanka's waters. At least 87 sailors died. Iran's foreign minister warned of US regret. The IRIS Dena was in the region for naval exercises with India. Sri Lanka conducted a rescue and recovery operation.

Economic Times
@AlisonCreekside This should count as bombing under a flag of truce, and be sent to the Hague immediately.

@ZenHeathen @AlisonCreekside

We'd actually have to be prosecuting war crimes for that to happen. Doesn't seem like that happens anymore.

@AlisonCreekside I admit I'm starting to lose track of how to categorize our crimes at this point, but this is surely on the order of ones that people were hanged for at Nuremberg. It's murder, of course. If there's any justice left in this world, people in my country's govt will be sent to the Hague, and some of them won't come back.
@wesdym

There will need to be a new term for what is at best, Gangster Fascism.

The principles of Crimes Against Humanity and "Only Following Orders", amongst others, were established at Nuremberg under the multi state trials and have been applied elsewhere - selectively - since.

The USA is notable for not being a signatory to the International Criminal Court. For this precise reason.

Try them in the USA, you have the Death Penalty, Europe and the ICC don't. I disapprove of it, but it would be appropriate for the grotesque abuses of human rights being committed inside and outside the USA by the USA.

Trump's intention to create a "Greater America" apparently encompassing North & South, like Putin & Russia, are echoes of the Third Reich.

There were chances to stop it in its early stages, but Britain wanted to appease and profit and the USA did not want to get involved except where it could turn a profit, especially overtaking the British Empire as controller of the Oil Industry.

Take oil out of the equation ...

@AlisonCreekside

@AlisonCreekside It is very debatable which side of this conflict India will take. On one hand it's a key player of BRICS alongside Russia and China. On the other its the only country in the world that has consistently cheered on and fully supported the genocide against #palestine

Indian-Iranian relations are complex at best. But,
bombing India's unarmed invited guests probably doesn't do the Israel-US side any favours.

@AlisonCreekside OMG! Can the morality of the US leadership fall any lower?
@AlisonCreekside It's what we come to expect from the rogue fundamentalist christian state of Trumpistan. Despicable.
@AlisonCreekside can you link to the original post?
@tmcfarlane This is the original post on an X mirror site - it's the same post:

Kanwal Sibal (@KanwalSibal)

The Iranian ship will not be where it was if we had not invited it to talk part in our Milan exercise. We were the hosts. I am told that as per protocol for this exercise ships cannot carry any ammunition. It was defenceless. The Iranian naval personnel had paraded before our president . The attack by the US submarine was premeditated as the US was aware of the Iranian ship’s presence in the exercise to which the US navy was invited but withdrew from participation at the last minute, presumably with this operation in mind. The US has ignored India’s sensitivities as the ship was in these waters because of India’s invitation. We are far from politically or militarily responsible for the US attack. Our“responsibility” is at a moral and human plane. A word of condolence by the Indian Navy ( after political clearance) at the loss of lives of those who were our invitees and saluted our president would be in order.

Nitter
@AlisonCreekside cheers, just going to his page on X (when not logged in), didn't see the post. It shows if you remove the "cancel" from your URL too.

@AlisonCreekside The thing about bottomless pits is that you are always shocked when you pass that point where you think there could be no further down.

The reason being is that you just didn't have imagination enough.

This is our new lowest of lows, but it's not the bottom. Trump's dragging us all the way down with him. There's something lower than being a pedophile who has his friends disarm his enemies so he can kill them and brag about his strength. As we become that thing we'll learn.

@AlisonCreekside thats just called murder

@AlisonCreekside
So the US knew the location of the Iranian ship off Sri Lanka bc both the US and Iran were part of a military exercise hosted by India

And the disgusting assholes knew it was defenseless.

They also just left the crew to drown.

Killed Junior school children in an illegal double tap attack.

I hope the actions are payed back a thousant times

usa can not be trusted in any way, it should be isolated.

ALL their troops and weapons must be removed from EU ASAP as a liability.

@AlisonCreekside I feel gut-punched by depravity of my country.

@AlisonCreekside wh

What the fuck

That is so much worse than what I knew about

@AlisonCreekside WTF? What a ”Great Victory”. 🤯

Hegseth’s ”Warrior Ethic” seems as honorable as Donald Trump’s business ethic! 🙂

@AlisonCreekside Note: Never invite the US to your party, unless you want to scrape the other guests off the floor after.
@AlisonCreekside but but but those "Chinese" war ships in south "China" sea... That's the real danger to whole of the world...
@AlisonCreekside
Every day the US finds new ways of fucking over folks. And not infrequently also killing them.
@AlisonCreekside
You would think the commander of that submarine would be embarrassed.

@AlisonCreekside

If India wants agency, autonomy, & sovereignty then India needs to switch to renewable energy.

Ditch its fossil fuel overlords.

The fossil fuel industry owns & operates the GOP and Trump uses energy as a club in his Shakedown Diplomacy.

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/12/20/us/politics/koch-network-2024-election-trump.html

India get wind & solar programs running or be forever collateral damage of America's Middle East oil wars.

Trump betrays allies with such regularity.

Koch Political Operation Spent Nearly $550 Million During 2024 Cycle

The huge sum shows that while the Koch network may not hold significant power at high levels of the Republican Party, it remains a financial juggernaut.

The New York Times

@AlisonCreekside

You just can't get more despicable than that.

Trump keeps finding a new bottom, that turns out not to be His bottom.

Vile, vile, vile.

This, this alone should result in the removal of Trump and Hegseth. If we have no mechanisms to achieve that, through our institutions, or due to those institutions having achieved the same lies (Mike Johnson), what are we to do?

@AlisonCreekside What a scumbag country the US is. It's reputation has been tipped down the sewer.
@AlisonCreekside It's ever worse then I thought it was.

@AlisonCreekside In wartime it is lawful to attack enemy ships even if they are defenseless, but you must first declare war to give them fair notice that their ships may be attacked without warning. But we haven’t done that. Only congress has the constitutional authority to declare war.

Every unprovoked attack on Iran is a war crime, including the school we bombed and the attack that killed the Iranian leadership.

@AlisonCreekside the issue for India is how to have sufficient influence to respond to this insult. India does have some strategic advantage particularly in the area of software. The European nations are very aware of how dependent they are on US software; how software often requires a massive user base to become available at economic scale. The strong connections india, it large talented English speaking population and the fact it is not China give it unique advantages. Slowly but surely.
@AlisonCreekside So the rest of the world is going to stop sharing intel with America now...right?...
@AlisonCreekside to think that India is at all responsible for the attack is mind boggling
@tirrimas I know nothing about the internal politics of India but I think there is some embarrassment on India's part that the Iranian frigate was India's guest, and also that Modi himself has not condemned the attack
In recent years Modi has moved much closer to the US and Israel than its past business associations with Iran.
