@markmetz this is so cool !!!
What is Magical Mushroom's behaviour under intense X-ray pulse? Does it turn into a compressive plasma?
@markmetz Within line of sight of me I have tea packaged in bamboo tubes and stored for use in calabash gourds.
We've been "growing packaging" for thousands of years.
So it's not a "what if' but rather "here's the next step".
@Guillotine_Jones @markmetz pretty much anyone can make it, using whatever feedstock biowaste is readily available in your region, and you don't need massive machines or anything, so it certainly supports that kind of grassroots "at scale."
Eben Bayer was pushing this back in 2010, and you'd think by now it would be the default packaging technology, but I guess he patented the shit out of this whole space which is why that hasn't happened yet.
Merci 🤗 !
La vidéo se lance pas (là c'est ptett Waterfox qui boude) mais ya la source dans les commentaires :

🤗 Merci

@markmetz there was a documentary about this on BBC2 like 15 years ago and it looked like such a great development. I never heard anything of it again. I hope it's finally taking off.
@SilverArrows Those packages are already in our shops. There are several European companies producing them. (You can find some in the comments here).
@admin Why should it?
Mycelium packages are checked just as meticulously as everything else for suitability and characteristics regulations before they are ready for the market. They are used for goods as a substitute for polystyrene https://www.permafungi.be/en/nos-clients
@admin There's a lot of info in the internet! You can also ask the producers for which case the packages are used.
#Mycelium is one of the foundations of life. It permeates the entire soil of earth. Most food plants cannot survive at all without symbiosis with mycorrhiza (= mycelium firmly connected to their roots). Every good compost has plenty of mycelium.
@markmetz Wonderful!
And undoubtedly, the Fediverse is the only place where I can see something with #solarpunk hash on the top of the trending list. Keep up the great work, fediversers.
(searching for the company may be difficult, though)
@markmetz The #goodNews: It's no more 'only' #solarpunk, it's already industry scale (the video seems to be quite old): https://magicalmushroom.com/
Here in France, we also have companies producing #packages from #mycelium, hemp, algues, or plant waste.
Also in other EU countries like Belgium: https://www.permafungi.be/en - which is cofounded by the EU!
The French anti-plastic laws have accelerated these developments.
BTW, the packages don't contain mushrooms but biopolymer from mycelium (Chitin).
Every time I encounter polystyrene/Styrofoam my day is significantly worse
I for one welcome our mycelium-packaging overlords. (Underlords?) 😎
@rpin42 Does he has the allergy when eating mushrooms? For soil is full of fungi mycelium (the kind of roots), many food plants grow thanks to it.
The company above produces these packages with hemp waste, and the mycelium delivers Chitin from it's cells as a "glue". Chitin is a natural biopolymer https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chitin
There are no "mushrooms" in these packages.
