@msdropbear Eh, I'm happy enough with a panel at the top -- I have a large Conky running on the right hand side of my screen.
@kerravonsen ah yes that's right, now i recall i learned several weeks+ ago from you that you're another #Conky user. tbh though, i'm a bit of a traitor, having run Conkies for several years but with the advent of their much improved reliability in Plasma ~5.25.x, i jumped over to using multiple Plasma desktop widgets... albeit on my second Activity sometimes i re-enable my Conkies for old times' sake.
over time, do you muck about with alternative panel positions, or is top always simply the "right" way for you?

@msdropbear I have my Conky set up how I like it, and I tend not to change it much. Every now and then I might find something new and fun that I can add -- like more informative weather -- and I'll try it out.
Do I muck about with alternative panel positions? Generally only when I'm trying out a new desktop environment, but I still stick to top or bottom, not side. But of course trying out a new DE is when one runs around having fun trying out all the NEW THINGS... and then one settles down and doesn't bother changing anything. Well... actually I do change my colours and my wallpaper quite frequently, but I have scripts for that.
I always seem to come back to Fvwm, though. Yes, it is ancient, but it is SO CONFIGURABLE.
