This post basically says "Don't be a dick" or "Be a decent person." The amount of people who were offended by this is surprising. I'm not here to debate decency.

If you don't like my message, move along. I don't care what you think if protecting our neighbors bothers you. If you try to refute what I say, I will ban/report you.

I you see people paternalistically reinforce harmful binary gender roles, say something. Take out the trash.

There is no equality under capitalism, only equal exploitation.

If you see a person harassing another person, you intervene. You dont think about gender roles for one second. This is how solidarity functions. It is not limited to gender, to race, even to species. We live, therefore we take care. Animals who think and speak different than us can do it. We take example.

I completely agree. My specific mention of gender was a call to address a common, visible pattern of harassment (which I did witness earlier today and too often), but the goal is absolutely a safer space for everyone, across all lines. Solidarity is the only way we keep these communities human.

Mastodon is the only service in the Fediverse that deliberately does not display the origin (service used) of replies.

The statement made is just as false as claiming that “my Thunderbird mail contacts” are the best. It doesn't matter what other software they were written with.

This conversation does not become a “Mastodon conversation” just because you are reading the post.

The above statement becomes even more inconsistent when one considers that thruthSocial is also Mastodon.

@crossgolf_rebel @goedelchen @terminaltilt did you misread the original post? The author does not say "the ONLY decent community is mastodon" but rather "mastodon is A decent community".
This is as if someone told you "my city is a nice place to live" and you interpreted that as "every other place on earth is shit". That is not the intent of the author, but rather your own interpretation.

Where and how can the creator differentiate that the community he is referring to uses only Mastodon as access?

There are two possible interpretations, and that's what I'm getting at.
Either he means the entire Fediverse, but doesn't say so because he has no idea what that means.

Or

He really is making a distinction and only means the users who use Mastodon. Which would again mean that the users who use Mastodon are better than those who don't use Mastodon, i.e., 50%.

I consider the entire Fediverse network to be one of the best inventions, regardless of the access software used, and that's how it should be described. Anything else leads to misunderstandings and false attributions.

Again, it is technically impossible in this network to separate posts according to the software used to create them. It is all one and should be named as such. Not doing so is discrimination against other services. For whatever reason. And in most cases, it is unawareness.
