We are stalled in the middle of nowhere and the train people also don't know why 🥳
People behind me are baffled by the concept of a Quiet Zone. People in front of me have two incredibly smelly dogs.
Turns out the people behind me are also baffled by the concept of cups of coffee coming in different sizes. Ridiculous that one would ask. Utterly outrageous. Obviously they want the largest one.

To be fair: I can be a size nazi. Whenever people ask me about which size I want, I ask things like "how many mLs is a Large?" because otherwise it doesn't mean much to me. Anyway, all of this to say that I probably shouldn't judge other people for their eccentric approach to assessing coffee cup sizes 🤷♀️

Turns out the people behind me actually wanted white coffee, not black, so now that has to be sorted out with the waiter. They are drinking it now, tho. The man is a devoted slurper who also does the post-swallow "aaaaaaaah".

We’re again stalled for no apparent reason. Is this a railway crossing for lizards?
The Baffled Couple is leaving!
The wet dog smell hasn't left the train yet, but I have! Train had caught up on its delay by the time it *almost* reached Köln Hbf, but then there wasn't a free platform available so it gained another 10 minutes delay. That didn't leave me with enough time to buy a sandwich in Düsseldorf, except that my connection also had a 6 minute delay, except that it didn't, except that it did, so now I'm on that train sans snack, in contrast to Smacking Guy next to me.
Aside from smacking and listening to music loud enough to escape his earphones, it turns out that Smacking Guy has a third hobby: making loud phone calls.
A rich life if ever I saw one.
Okay Smacking Man was very kind and polite when he told me that I need not bother getting ready to disembark because we’re delayed and it will take a while 🫠

Did make the connection, tho, even though the train from Düsseldorf to Venlo was supposed to be a direct connection. I also bought snacks. It’s finally quiet around me and there are no dogs 🥳

Daniel Hernández@anna I was in a train and the DB app sent me a message saying I will lose the combination. 10 minutes later it messaged me that I will be able to connect. Then received another message saying I will lose it. And so on, many times. Finally, I arrived to the station, ran, and managed to combine 🙂
Bart Louwers@anna If you want another train to wait, I expect there would need to be some communication. But as far as I know the concept of 'waiting' for a slightly delayed train or bus does not exist in Germany unless if the delay is pre-planned.
I once dealt with a bus route where two bus operators has some kind of fight, so one of them would leave a few minutes early on purpose, leaving travelers stranded for an hour. According to the bus driver at least.

@anna I've got family that works in helping corps plan, get approval for, execute and evaluate large-scale construction projects in terms of preservation, where they sometimes need to take special precautions when disrupting biotopes (as here? though I'll have to admit, don't know how amphibians thrive in gravel) or build and kickstart artificial biotopes (as in: you're building a gravel pit for a railway and are pumping off the water from wetlands ? Need to make a salamander refuge nearby!).1/2
