German fact: the German word for "mobile" or "cell phone" is "Handy" (yes, I know), pronounced in English. It is a fake loanword, if you will.

It's pretty possible that the Motorola Handie-Talkie SCRxxx family was the one that introduced the word "Handie" to Germans, who consequently adopted it for CB and early mobile phones, where it stuck as "Handy".

(before people invest a lot of energy recommending mutt, evolution, …: I've considered them, and I have a hard list of non-negotiable very basic business email requirements none of these fulfill.
Among that: don't crash on start on a clean fedora, dear evolution, while refusing to start as flatpak *sometimes*. Can't right now look up the list I shared a while back here;core of it: basic HTML R+W, OAuth for gmail, calendars, stability, not >1GB startup traffic due to re-downloading all calendars)
My JLab Vertical Mouse's scrollwheel broke. They just sent me a replacement mouse from the US. I'm impressed. Nice customer service!

I seriously needed to edit a JSON file just to make Thunderbird stop opening HTTP(S) links in an internal browser tab instead of in firefox, my default browser, which actually has all the sessions and profiles needed to make most of these links useful at all.

Thunderbird didn't do that up to 20 min ago; this was definitely a sudden change in behaviour that broke my workflows without asking me. I'm so tired of there not being a sensible graphical mail client for Linux.

It's still #MusicWomenWednesday in some parts! So, here's Lucifer – Louise:

Lucifer are a band from … err, Europe! They feature an extremely #Doom #Metal bass and, smokey bluesy fantastic vocals (Johanna Platow) that plays in the same leagues as say Graveyard.

The latter is rather interesting, because a) easily isolated galvanically (power consumption of modern switch ICs ~= self-discharge in modest-sized coin cells) and b) arbitrarily large capacitor banks, if you need them (you get a lower limit though due to internal capacitances.

Hey @hennichodernich , I just thought about your patchloop antenna circuitry. Assuming I wanted to adaptively tune that by putting a capacitance in series with the loop, do you have a clever idea on how to do digital-to-capacity conversion?

It's not a field I'm versed in, but eyeballing impedance, the usual varicap approaches would look to be too low in value, and also invitations to harmonics. Plus, would still need to add a voltage DAC.
Other approach would be analog switch ICs + C-2C ladder.

A new Jenny's Bench article for you all to read. Please support me if you can, it means a lot.

XDCAM disk drives, anyone?
