this happened to my buddy taco on cyber monday
things i definitely have NOT been doing: spending most waking moments absorbing every bit of information on the flashforge adventurer 5m pro i purchased while it ships from new jersey
oh my god.
the first thing i actually needed to print was a perfect fucking fit to my wahl trimmer whose plastic bit broke and i just printed it for $0.02 instead of paying $20 for a new one

and, of course, i printed a (modified) #benchy that was included on the flashforge. this seems to be pretty different from the original...

#3dprinting

sadly, i am running low on filament now. i ordered this printer from a different online distributor since i could get it super cheap and the filaments i purchased are being sold separately. the other filaments i have ordered will arrive this week, though, and i'm very excited to show off prints in these colors!

the flashforge came with their own in-house burnt titanium multicolor pla, the ones i'm looking to show off are polymaker's panchroma pla in some more bird and fops related colors

Flashforge PLA Multicolor Filament

turns out that #benchy was an IMPOSTER BOAT which was preloaded onto my FlashForge and not the original boat

but here they be. had just enough filament left for one!

#3dprinting

i found out the flashforge saves timelapses of all your prints, so here's the #benchy being printed

#3dprinting

i really liked this gear fidget i printed in black earlier but they didn't fit nice around my fingers so i printed two more in purple and green and a little bigger using a 0.6mm nozzle

#3dprinting

i printed some low poly birds! sadly, their underfluffies didn't come out as good as i hoped. i tried printing one with supports but didn't manage to get rid of the overhang. maybe with a 0.4mm nozzle i'll have more success?

#3dprinting

i found the need to make a filament tracker in a spreadsheet... i want a rough estimate of how much filament i have left in a roll so i can plan how many prints i have left. i'm rounding up to the nearest gram on each print so i'll always have some left over to account for whatever waste when swapping filaments, etc. that way i can get the most out of roll, i feel! also, it'll be nice to track my prints in general.

i'm using the filament id to be able to input it as shorthand and calculate it with =(G3-SUMIF($PrintLog.C:C,A3,$PrintLog.D:D))

very fast 3d brinter going at very hihg speed

and yeah i know the bed adhesion isn't going great for those two little end guys here's a shot of me trying to fix it

#3dPrinting

i think the print will come out good but will probably need some special shaping and trimming to serve its purpose lol
note to self for next time i do a long-ass print like this: just fucking use the glue dude

nvm they turned out perfect functionally

#3dPrinting

this balisong/butterfly knife/comb model is probably the coolest thing i've printed so far

#3dPrinting #ButterflyKnife

btw if you don't like my #3dPrinting toots sorry not sorry

i dont have a filament problem, i have a lack of filament problem

#3dPrinting

a complex print job didn't work out like i wanted it to so now i'm printing myself an emotional support low poly 3d bulbasaur

#3dPrinting #Pokemon

i bought a sample set of colored filaments that are like 250g and these are great prints for testing out the different print settings since they take like 30m and look cute

testing out some fuzzy skin 3d printing techniques with this rabbit; the slight texture doesn't come through as well on camera but is definitely adding to the look and feel irl of the print

#3dPrinting

i no longer respect sunlu wood pla. it has failed to print a benchy TWICE. it JAMMED MY PRINTER and made me accidentally scrape a flake off of the textured bed. be warned. 😒

#3dPrinting

working on a filament swatch system now that i finally got a label maker...

#3dPrinting

btw, these swatches: https://www.printables.com/model/1005904-bambu-lab-filament-swatch-with-12x22r2-label are made to show you how each filament handles transparent prints/vase mode at different layer heights AND they're bambu lab swatch holder compatible. i think it's really neat

#3dPrinting

i'm not joking that this hyperfixation on 3d printing has actually improved my mental health. this has been a great creative experience and i feel like i'm constantly trying new things and learning the limits and also new benefits of the medium. i am very privileged to be able to do this but god it is a fun time. i wish everyone could be able to print stuff like this at their homes or local libraries. our library lacks a 3d printer. i might frankly buy and donate one and stock some filament to them. people deserve to have this technology in their hands.

@chirpbirb this is much better than the current swatches im using, which are gigantic and take up a lot of space. thank you!
@chirpbirb this is a really good idea
@tsunderdog i saw it in a video and have been wanting to get these made ever since! i'm looking up holders for them to have them easily accessible
@chirpbirb I've used Bambu Labs Wood PLA for a couple of projects with no issues, might be worth a go. ^^
@xanthe i trust bambu to make better filament than SUNLU so I'll definitely have to try them out!

@chirpbirb Fuzzy skin is the best, especially on a fuzzy bunny.

If Orca has paint-on fuzzy skin, you could probably flood-fill all the surfaces that aren't the eyes (or flood-fill the eyes with "remove fuzzy skin") and save some time.

@kbob it has paint on, but i wanted a more precise sphere to work with instead of going at it with the mouse. thanks for the advice, though!
@chirpbirb I'm using #octoprint for the history (besides other things) and #spoolman for the management of my filament (including tracking). Maybe this would work for you too. Happy printing!
@M4x this looks like exactly what i'm looking for, thank you!
@chirpbirb You're welcome!
@chirpbirb there is a opensource software that does exactly that automagically together with with Mainsail/OctoPrint. It's called Spoolman

@maxheadroom i got recommended it earlier and have installed it!
@chirpbirb Have you tried Spoolman?
@mfraz74 i was recommended it in another comment and i am using it! i'm still also using this spreadsheet since spoolman doesn't have a manual print log (i have to set up klipper on my machine to be able to do that automatically)
@chirpbirb the bottom picture made me think of two little low poly drum sticks. Lol
@chirpbirb ooh neat! I wonder if I can get my new laser to do that
@chirpbirb Fantastic looking print!
suspiciously square benchy
@hotsocket.fyi i think this is because i printed the model that came on the flashforge and not the one that's on thingiverse. i'll have to go back and print a regular benchy with the official files!
@chirpbirb what the hell is this bootleg ass benchy
