I'm a married woman. I don't embarrass easily, but I've discovered recently that there's nothing more mortifying than not having to do a pregnancy test before a hospital procedure because you haven't had sex in ages.
@fesshole what about having to take the pregnancy test, and your husband is with you, and *he* hasn't had sex in ages?
@fesshole nothing to be mortified with.

@fesshole big difference with the US, where they'll do the test (because you might be lying) them charge insurance (or you) probably several hundred dollars for it (which with insurance will be negotiated down to under $50 most likely).

I say this because someone I went to college with had to pee on a stick recently before surgery. She's both trans and in her late 50s.

@fencepost @fesshole

I've had a hysterectomy, and when I looked at the rundown of services from a more recent surgery I saw a negative pregnancy test result. I assume they tapped my catheter? It was in the covered stuff so I didn't make a fuss, but I was hugely amused.
@fesshole at... at least they believe you and don't treat you like an idiot and keep going 'but are you SURE?!'/make you do one anyway?
@alicemcalicepants @fesshole
Maybe it’s a miracle. I’d hate to miss a perfectly good miracle.
@alicemcalicepants @fesshole People lie about much more mundane things, and when the consequences are potentially severe, it's better to be extra careful. I wouldn't take it personally. It's like when bar staff demand ID from everybody, even if they are obviously at least 60.

@mansr @alicemcalicepants @fesshole

Where does the latter happen? Never heard about that one (I believe you! It's just not a thing where I live).

@Mab_813 @alicemcalicepants @fesshole I've seen it occasionally, mostly in America.

@mansr @alicemcalicepants @fesshole

That's mostly because it's a legal thing and it's easier to id everyone. Single someone out, people think they're being picked on. Don't ID and it's an ALE officer? There goes your job possibly.
Some places are stricter about it than others, really depends on where you're at and what you're getting

@HappyCrow13 @alicemcalicepants @fesshole If getting caught by a licensing officer seems bad, try a medical malpractice suit.

@mansr @alicemcalicepants @fesshole

Doctors have lawyers to help them get out of it. I'm just going to jail. At the very least I lose my job and pay a big fine.

Doctors can go back to doctoring. I'm sure we've all heard those stories, doctors with many suits against them still getting jobs.

@fesshole what, that worked?
Me, in my single days: haven’t had sex for 2 years.
Doctor: we’ll do a pregnancy test anyway

🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

@fesshole I miss sex since I got settled, but of course I’m too old and ugly to get any now even if I were still single.
@fesshole nah, don't think so. I had to do a pregnancy test before surgery even though I was there with my wife and a lesbian in good standing. We laughed a lot.
