WTF of the week (yes, it's only Tuesday):

Microsoft warns that Windows 11's agentic AI could install malware on your PC: "Only enable this feature if you understand the security implications"

Microsoft is pushing ahead with its plan to add agentic capabilities to Windows 11 but has issued an important security warning for anyone who is interested in trying it out.

Windows Central
@leyrer how is this then even enabled?
@leyrer "I am sorry, Dave. I already installed that." #3001ASoftwareOdyssey
@MSugarhill @nightlynx what could possibly go wrong :D
@leyrer …if you give PornAI system privileges. ;) @MSugarhill

@leyrer as if such a warning ever stopped people from doing something they have no clue about haha

@leyrer

Microsoft: Here’s this “feature” we’re shoving down your throat, but only enable it if you understand the security implications.

Us: Why the hell do you keep pushing this garbage

@leyrer so it's going to be disabled by default then?

Of course not, that wouldn't goose Microsoft's AI usage stats, would it.

@leyrer how much worse can it get, though? You've already got malware... Windows!
@leyrer Industriestandard. 🙃
@wurzelmann @leyrer Fachkräftemangel. Es ist immer der Fachkräftemangel

@lobingera @leyrer

@leyrer @wurzelmann @lobingera
@leyrer It's the first AI Feature that isnturned of by Default. I Wonder how much honeypods for Windows agents are there already.
Btw couldn't read the full article my browser Window was Frozen half way. The real Windows experience ...
@leyrer Given that Windows 11 is malware as a service anyway..,
@leyrer "Only drink rat poison if you understand the health implications." 🤔

@leyrer How about "Only insert the mandatory feature if you understand the security implications."?

#microsoft #copilot #windows11

@leyrer
> We made Copilot built-in
> Don't use it unless you wanna get hacked, tho

@leyrer

Wait Agentic AI is not malware?

@leyrer “Do not enable unless you understand the security implications” immediately followed by “Once enabled by an administrator account, it is enabled for all users.” I think the overwhelming majority of Windows installs are single-user, but that is bullshit. Here’s a dangerous feature, be careful, oh and if someone else turns it on then you’re stuck with it, too, lol.
@leyrer
I remember when I had to rely on my dad to open a random email and run HOT_BABES.EXE for Windows to get malware. Now it's fully automated! What a time to be alive
@leyrer
@leyrer @briankrebs Suddenly Apple’s fluffing of AI on Mac and iOS seems prescient; at least there are alternate platforms where this garbage can be avoided.
@leyrer "no, we will not provide any information to assist you in making an informed decision."
@leyrer Not just agentic. Double agentic.

@leyrer

How many weeks ago did Win10 officially become obsolete? Microsoft sure is moving fast with losing the little credibility they had left with their premier product.

@iju @leyrer i dunno if obsolete is the right word. Hell, it seems like running windows 10 without security updates is less likely to put malware on your computer.

@Montaagge @leyrer

I did say "officially obsolete", not "practically obsolete" ☝🏻

@leyrer like the Perfectly Spherical, Frictionlless User knows a single fuck on this
@leyrer It's too late though, the user already has Windows 11
@leyrer I wonder whats the real use case for this for normal users could be and why they are so keen adding these expensive AI features for everyone to use for free
@leyrer so Microsoft tells us how to (permanently) disable AI on Win11?
@rince @leyrer No. They tell you, if turning on agenticAI is causing problems, you own them, not they.
@leyrer That's Microsoft. 🤷‍♀️
@leyrer The AI dream seems to be unravelling fast. At the same time I find it extremely effective in many questions on the mind and body that I pose. Far more so than many physicians I have encountered.
