I seek games of #Go online and I cannot limit to just ranked players.

Rank matters - big player difference can make for an unbalanced game.

99% of unranked players who take up my challenge say NOTHING about their rank. They could be any level.

This is where we are with the lazy anonymity that online systems kind of encourage.

They do not seem to care in the slightest, wasting the time of others as they appear to only experience the game - oblivious to who they are playing.

#Meritocracy is a strange beast when you start to look deeper.

Is there greater merit by what one person can achieve because of unlimited energy levels than someone who very swiftly tires yet applies themselves with greater effort in spite of that predication?

Much of life is based on the effect of what you do. Should that be the focal meritorious aspect?

RED FUCKING ALERT

The United States is dropping land mines around villages in Iran. Images posted to social media Thursday show what experts said are U.S. land mines dispersed across a residential area in southern Iran, in what appears to be the first instance in more than two decades of American forces using the weapons.

The photos show American BLU-91/B anti-tank land mines, which are released from an aircraft as part of the Gator mine scattering system, according to four munitions experts who reviewed the imagery at The Washington Post’s request. The United States is the only party in the Iran war known to possess the system.

LAND MINES ARE A WAR CRIME! What in the actual fuck are we doing here? This is a violation of law, of sense, and of humanity. Den Hague for everyone involved.

#Cardiff indoor market today I discovered a strange new stall. A man will create a story for you when you offer 3 words to him.

Had to chat!

A fellow talker with #strangers. I happened to be carrying a spare copy of my book about talking with strangers - a diary of synchronicities. Gave it to him and he gave me his novel and chats with strangers.

Not the normal encounter to be expected on walkabout.

Splendid!

Now the calculated backlash from the obscenely spoilt owner ...

The US basically isn't enforcing a whole host of laws and regulations regarding finance (hasn't since the 2007 bubble, even less so these days) which means the current bubble probably has a bunch of fraud going on—sorry, "poor information environment" is, I think, the euphemism du jour

Since online advertising has basically been filled with I Can't Believe This Is Legal™ fraud-adjacent behaviour for years, I'm personally taking the numbers coming out of tech with a grain of salt
