The Streaming War Is Over. Piracy Won.

@kkarhan DO WHAT YOU WANT ‘CAUSE A PIRATE IS FREE, YOU ARE A PIRATE!

@mrmasterkeyboard what makes #piracy even morally justifyable is when there are no legal means to obtain a physical copy and/or stream it...

Like it's one thing when a #FreeTV station (like #SuperRTL) doesn't want to pay rising #licensing fees for certain shows when the IP holders (i.e. #Disney & #Viacom) decide to put it on their own non - #PayTV / #FTA - Stations (i.e. #DisneyChannel / #DisneyXD & #Nickelodeon) but delisting own content just to circumvent the pre - agreed-upon residual payments to cast & crew which are a cut of the #revenue of said show is just an absolute asshole move!

Also #delisting #WestWorld is an absolute #DickMove and doing so should make #HBO unable to ever hire anyone working for them, because they violated a *de-facto unwritten rule in #ShowBiz*, and that is [*paying staff based upon success*](https://youtu.be/H6Oac6mtytg?si=aIIwH2cVLvUV00-5&t=294) because many don't get paid upfront or only a tiny portion. - Oftentimes the same #actors and #directors are also *invested* in a show or movie, if not coughing up substatial amounts of the financing to the point that they can keep a series afloat when the studio is having issues (*looks at 2000s MGM in anger and disappointment*)... And this ain't limited to big budget productions, but is normal down to theaters, where actors sometimes get paid their cut of the ticket sales post-play. - This is in part due to the financial #risk of said productions and also to incentivize top acts to stay and perform their best. And yes, #MovieProduction was #VentureCapital before #VC firms or even their founders existed!

@kkarhan couldn’t have said it better myself.

@mrmasterkeyboard the whole #IP "legislation" is nuts and needs to be replaced!

For real...

@vfrmedia@social.tchncs.de [*THIS*](https://infosec.space/@kkarhan/115294733678239453) really grinds my gear: - #ArtificialScarcity in this regard harms both the #artists and even everyone in the whole chain of #licensing... IMHO there should be a *"#FRAND-[Clause"*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reasonable_and_non-discriminatory_licensing) in #Copyright #laws around the globe, stating that if one's unwilling to sell / license at *"fair, reasonable and non-discrimiatory" terms*, their #Copyrights for #commercially licensed material gets canned. - Because the logic of claiming *"damages"* from *"infringing individuals"* falls completely flat if they ain't given the option to *legitimately license it AT ALL*!

@kkarhan Tom Scott’s video is amazing, I recommend everyone watch it in its entirety. (And also watch his other videos, they are amazing too!)

@mrmasterkeyboard that's because @tomscott goes above and beyond in terms of #DueDiligence and doesn't simply shove out #ClickBait.

And we need more people like him.
Around the globe.
Like unsarcastic!

  • In fact I believe he's "too based" to be a successful politician!

@kkarhan @tomscott honestly I wish Tom would post to mastodon actively…

Tom, if you’re reading this, please post to mastodon I’d love to see you on my feed.
