Like… I’m not one to yuck someone’s yum - and at 42 I’ve certainly had work done, but it’s not as much about insulting looks as a psychological study into the bizarre influences and self hate impacting the high profile MAGA women. It shows how little autonomy they really hold.

None of those women (while extremely evil) would have been considered conventionally unattractive before surgery, fillers, Botox, hair bleaching and dying, micro blading, etc. But they felt the need to fall into a very exacting standard that doesn’t even align with overall American fashion trends

There’s obviously a fucking lot to unpack there and I’m not a psychologist or sociologist.

@hacks4pancakes thanks for this, i was having similar thoughts without finding a good way to summarise them!
@axx it’s deeply disturbing in a Stepford or AI girlfriend way.

@hacks4pancakes @axx They honestly look kinda freaky. Like some sort of weird Dr. Who villains.

"Attractive" is a subjective thing, but in the before pictures they looked human.

@lyda @hacks4pancakes I broadly agree with you, but as Lesley was saying: lots to unpack here.

Why are these (and many more) attracted to looking like this? Are they even attracted to it?

@axx @hacks4pancakes I ask that for lots of things. My theory is that it's a status symbol. They have enough money to spend on it.
@lyda @axx status symbol of identical elective surgery is a wild twist.

@hacks4pancakes @axx My mom emigrated from Ireland at 21. She did a stint as a high school nurse when I was little - kind of doing reconnaissance to figure American schools/teens out since she was about to have one.

Her take was that teenagers were conservative. They wanted to do what everyone else did. I think there's a lot to that - beyond just teens.

For folks who value status, they also value conformity. Status only exists by comparing.

@lyda
I love your idea: rich people need conformity (if i dotted it fairly.)

If teenagers do not know how to position, they grip status.

@lyda @hacks4pancakes @axx The Doctor Who villain you're thinking of is Cassandra.

https://tardis.fandom.com/wiki/Cassandra_O'Brien.%CE%9417

Cassandra O'Brien.Δ17

Lady Cassandra O'Brien.Δ17 (pronounced "dot delta seventeen"), or simply Lady Cassandra, was a former human in the far future. Cassandra was born as Brian Edward Cobbs in the ruins of the Walsall Apology in the Old Calendar Year of 4.99/4763/A/15. She was known to often make outlandish claims about her parentage. (PROSE: Lives of the Rich and Thin [+]Russell T Davies, Monsters and Villains (BBC Books, 2005).) According to Cassandra, her father, a Texan, and her mother, who came from the...

Tardis
@mansr @hacks4pancakes @axx in character, sure. But I was thinking more of some sort of shape-changing alien that can almost make a human face but not quite. Wasn't there some sort of plastic creature like that?
@lyda @hacks4pancakes @axx Why should they try looking human, when the character isn't either? ;)

btw: am most certain the guy Kimberly Guifoyle is standing next to in the before pic is her ex-husband GAVIN NEWSOME.

@hacks4pancakes @axx

@axx

I usually just say "those cartoon lips" for short.

@hacks4pancakes

@hacks4pancakes i think it's part of the same impulse explored in The Stepford Wives
@hacks4pancakes Within 10-15 years their modified faces will be grotesque, perhaps even with episodic re-sculpting.
@hacks4pancakes Yeah, it's creepy as heck how much they all seem to be fitting themselves into the same template, removing everything that made them unique.
@hacks4pancakes if you have no more expressions on your face, you will not feel the other people. The more you use botox, the less you have empathy.
@wedz @hacks4pancakes
This is actually true there was a study done on people who had Botox on their face… What it does is make the muscles “unusable”. Humans and other animals actually mimic the expression of others to sense the emotion they are seeing. It’s very fleeting and subtle but it does make a difference in how you perceive others feelings… it’s rather fascinating.
@hacks4pancakes All of them did themselves a disservice with the mar-a-lago face uniform, and I doubt a single study could explain all of the whys. On one hand, I kinda feel a bit sorry for them, on the other hand, it makes it easy to spot a fascist.
@hacks4pancakes They look like they've applied monster prosthetics from an 80's body snatcher movie
@hacks4pancakes It looks extra creepy because they've edited out the teeth in the after photos. It's particularly obvious in the last one.
@hacks4pancakes perhaps the machine that makes the flesh suits to cover our reptilian overlords is wearing out or running short of quality materials?
@hacks4pancakes erk! Now I discover I actually find "before Kristi" attractive! Somebody fetch me the brain scrubber...
@hacks4pancakes a recent BTB ep had an offhand comment about “you don’t come out of there human” (wrt one of the nazi officer training schools), and a lot of what a lot of these collaborators do remind me of that: so willing to give up their humanity for the (temporary) power to harm and impose..
@hacks4pancakes I wouldn't schtup any of them with Trump's weenie

@hacks4pancakes

Yeah, it is...something. I don't begrudge anyone wanting to do some fix-its and such, but this is so much more than "this bump on my nose has bothered me since middle school." And to me, none of these women were unattractive before they got all the work done - and frankly the work is a downgrade, but it seems to be some fucked up status symbol.

@hacks4pancakes I was in DC around the time of the inauguration and I remember seeing lots of these fur-coat-wearing whites women with pancake makeup and the same overdone hairstyle. Women from in and around DC don’t look like that so it was easy to figure out they were there for the inauguration.

@MisuseCase @hacks4pancakes
These women deserve no sympathy.

There are a lot of women out there trying to keep up with society's unrealistic expectations of women, especially with age. Sometimes procedures go wrong. Usually I respond with compassion, like in the case of Jocelyn Wildenstein, a famous case of excessive plastic surgery.

She wasn't a Nazi trying to please monstrous men at the expense of all other people's human rights.

These are Nazis. Let 'em have it.

@MaryAustinBooks @hacks4pancakes It’s easy for plastic surgery procedures to go wrong but the oversprayed hair and excessive makeup are definitely intentional choices, and ones made repeatedly at that
@MisuseCase @hacks4pancakes
Plus, good Lord but hate ages you. It's not just the women either. How TF am I close in age to JD Vance, Matt Gaetz and Stephen Miller?? They look a generation older.

@zl2tod @hacks4pancakes

if you haven't seen this film, it is worth the time to watch it, it is brilliant

@samiamsam

A tale of struggle against an authoritarian dystopia.

No modern resonance, honest.

@hacks4pancakes

@hacks4pancakes OMG, nightmare, horrible...you don't want to meet them at night...but not during the day either OMG
@hacks4pancakes
They're grotesque; and they'll only become more so as they age and continue to pursue whatever it is they're in pursuit of.
@hacks4pancakes - Yeah, Yeah, Yeah; The Plunger Lips cant be un done. Hilarious
@hacks4pancakes Are their teeth all blacked out in the "after" images?

@hacks4pancakes
I'm not against gender affirming surgery

I don't like shaming people for their appearance

society has enough women judged on how they look instead of who they are

but I will say this;

the right is a cult of hate where nobody is ever good enough

the right wing men that are driving right wing women's insecurities prefer women (very) young and don't bother to craft roles for older women in society (if any women)

now perhaps these women chose these looks, perhaps they are happy, and if so I am happy for them. its their politics that disgusts me

but western beauty standards was already veering into blonde-haired blue-eyed pale-skinned Nazi stuff

watching it become so strong within right wing culture troubles me deeply

its easy to go after the women, society trains us to do so instead of holding men accountable

lets attack male standards not the victims

and lets have room for people to have a bit of surgery without someone finding the worst after photo and going to town on them

@normjess I think it's really important to talk about Mar A Lago face for exactly the reasons you describe. It's symptomatic of larger scale eugenics and ageism, and I'm not sure I would consider Noem a victim, though she's obviously not going to come out a winner.
@normjess @hacks4pancakes I'm not against gender-affirming surgery, and I'm 100% against judging people for their looks. But what gender is this affirming? MAGA? This is uncanny valley stuff -- more so, in a way, than some of the animalistic body mods (like Dennis Avner). I am terminally face blind, but even I'm disturbed by these comparisons. Loomer, particularly, reminds me of Kane Pixels's The Rolling Giant. What does this achieve for them? What was the thought process?
@hacks4pancakes
They all look like the same face with different wigs and colored contacts… it’s very depressing. All trying to be something different and identical.
I wonder how many of them heard fairy tales about the “beautiful person” who was rotten inside. Haven’t they heard the phrase “beauty is as beauty does”? Or “you can be the most beautiful person in the world on the outside, but if you have an ugly heart you are more grotesque than the ugliest person you can imagine.”
@hacks4pancakes I guess what I'm curious about is whether, if any of these people found out what surgeries I've had, they would consider it "mutilating" myself.
@mcc @hacks4pancakes This is their own gender-affirming surgery.

@hacks4pancakes It's so standardized it has a name: Mar-a-Lago face

oops I see you mentioned that in the comments

@hacks4pancakes And they all looked better before even.
@hacks4pancakes Any time you have to cut your face off and replace it with a face manufactured for you in order to join a club, it's bad news. Don't join that club.

@hacks4pancakes one parallel that comes to mind is https://mastodon.ie/@EmilyGB2023@chaosfem.tw/115023224416380973 , in particular:

“patriarchy demands of all males that they engage in acts of psychic self-mutilation, that they kill off the emotional parts of themselves”

Is this not also a form of cult-conformist self-mutilation? Just physical rather than emotional (because our society judges women by their looks).

mastodon.ie

@hacks4pancakes at this point Occam’s razor suggests they’ve more likely all just been replaced with lizards in skin suits. It would make more sense than making these aesthetic choices.

@hacks4pancakes

That's a topic where I'm really happy trickle down doesn't work.
