I'm looking to de-Google my Xiaomi Redmi A5 and I'm not sure which route to take.
Has anyone successfully de-Googled a Xiaomi Redmi A5? If so, which OS did you use and what was your experience like? @postmarketOS @mobian @linmob @[email protected] @ubuntu @omgubuntu

💡 First of all, the question is can the bootloader be re-locked? If not, what is the point of doing it?
From a security perspective, a device with an unlocked bootloader is not suitable for further use.

@Lacze @0689df5847a8d3376892da29622d7c0fdc1ef1958f4bc4471d90966aa1eca9f2 @Starcross The question of whether the bootloader can be re-locked is indeed significant for some users. However, from my perspective, the goal isn't necessarily to re-lock the bootloader but to have the freedom and flexibility that comes with unlocking it.

Unfortunately, this fundamental security issue is widely ignored. Perhaps because too little is said about it and solutions without a minimum of security are promoted.

Please read this article, it explains a lot.

There is no freedom if you can't lock the bootloader again, it's a limitation by the manufacturer.
This type of devices should not be purchased. Even AI will tell you what threats an unlocked bootloader brings...

@debby @0689df5847a8d3376892da29622d7c0fdc1ef1958f4bc4471d90966aa1eca9f2 @Starcross Well I take the risk!
While having a google phone the chance is 100% that someone spies at you, the chance with a unlocked, degoogled phone is alot less. Also I think the link is not quite acurate. It does definitly not prevent ANY tempering with the system. While it is true for the core of the operating system it does not prevent malicous apps from beeing installed and spying on you..
