Anyone want a #PinePhone keyboard case? Otherwise I'll trash it. Battery might be dead, idk.

EDIT: Preferrably someone in Germany or EU, to simplify shipping.

Reinstalled PostmarketOS on my Pinephone Beta.

It looks like maybe it was a bootloader error in the previous/last upgrade that might have sent my phone into 120s continuous reboot.
Maybe it was something else...

Time for another #linux #microblog.

I've shared in detail how much I love running #LinuxMint on Desktop PCs, Laptops, Tablets and - because I'm busy - even on some micro-servers (until I get around to rebuilding them as headless Debian.)

So I'm sure you've been asking what no one has been asking - why not run Linux on my phone.

My wife picked up a #PinePhone for me, in spite of the many "this is only for developers" warnings. I am, after all, a developer.

After having it for about a week, I'll share that it's not ready, but not for the many expected reasons.

It's just too slow. Specifically KDE's software center has always been a bit sluggish, but running on a phone, it's simply unusable.

I will certainly drop to command line installations and continue trying things out on this delightful little device.

But for today, my journey in casual user mode stopped almost immediately when I couldn't even install a Matrix client.

My conclusion is that the PinePhone is, as it says on the order page, still only suitable to early testing by developers.

In contrast, I think the #PineWatch still has a few warnings leftover in the docs, but it has been my daily driver smartwatch for a couple of years now.

@mntmn @barebox @ailurux 🤔 I wonder if that could work for the #Pinephone. @barebox seems to support allwinner and if it can initialize and hand over the display, that would be a big improvement on #OpenBSD

Don't worry, Android 2 on the PinePhone isn't real, it can't hurt you.

The Phosh 0.55.0 Release

Today, I attempted to do a release upgrade of #PostmarketOS on my #PinePhone. I started out with errors on two packages which prevented the upgrade from happening (and which weren't fixable with "apk fix").

Uninstalling those -- fortunately not critical -- and I got the upgrade script to run. Now I'm left with a console login on the phone screen, with no on-screen keyboard. I think a reinstall is in order.

I remain sadly unconvinced by the usability (at all) of PostmarketOS.
