Pine64 is pausing production of some devices rather in response to DRAM shortages, rather than increasing prices. There are also currently no plans to develop a next-gen PinePhone. #Pine64 #Pinephone #RAMShortage https://pine64.org/2026/03/24/march_2026_fosdem/
FOSDEM 2026 Update

Hey again RSS readers (love y’all). In this update we share what we discussed at FOSDEM (PinePhone 2, community editions, DRAM shortage), what we demoed at our stand at FOSDEM and details on the PineTime Pro. Next month will have the main community update.

PINE64

hmm ook got sxmo running off sd card. wonder how to get this on emmc. investigating...

#sxmo #pinephone

Hmm since #pinephone is useless as a phone, maybe I can turn it into a nixos or Linux box to ssh into my servers

Researching...

Welp. It's been a fun one Android. Once my phone breaks, I'm done having a phone, until I get a job that pays well so I can buy myself a Linux phone.

I know dumb phones still exist and I don't mind typing with the keypads but I'd rather have no phone than have a dumb phone

When that time comes that my last phone breaks, I will probably be the only Gen Z in the whole world who has no phone.

I recently got a #PinePhone (not the PinePhone Pro) as I wanted to experiment with some Android alternatives.

I installed #postmarketos on the microSD quite easily and got it running, exploring Linux on mobile right from the start.

First impressions are positive, but I noticed that postmarket runs very slowly on the PinePhone.

Does anyone know if it will run smootherbif I install it on the internal eMMC? (I’m asking before doing it because it’s not as easy as running it from the microSD.)

In the meantime, I must get an up-to-date OS onto my #PinePhone. As I've said in a few posts here, I've had it since 2020, but since then I've lacked the spoons to teach myself complicated new hacker skills. Including installing mobile OS, even on a device designed to make it easier.

Speaking of the PP, maybe a range of cheap DumbPhones could be based on that tech? A quick search on the #DumbPhone tag here shows a lot of interest, and on the same tag with an "s". How about it @pine64?
