You'll own NOTHING and be HAPPY! That's what I've been hearing a lot, lately. Quick video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAsgjKBkKMA

Sign the Stop Killing Games initiative here, if you're in the EU or UK: https://www.stopkillinggames.com

You will own NOTHING and be HAPPY! (SKG)

@geerlingguy I was just reading the WEForum post the other day

@geerlingguy

Yeah, thank you jeff for the video.

EDIT.

@Madagascar_Sky @geerlingguy
May be urgency and social importance of this issue, of this question of ownership.
@mikalai basically. I saw that there's a chance the initiative could succeed, which honestly surprised me. So put a little time into a script to help maybe push it to 1m!
@geerlingguy I hadn’t heard of SKG, so interesting. I have strong feelings attached to the game Bureaucracy, and am so happy that it is still playable today. Will my kids be able to play our Switch downloaded games when they’re my age? Who knows!
@geerlingguy one small correction. id USED to release source code for their games, but they are no longer doing that (and they didn't for over a decade)...
@geerlingguy hopefully the amount of damage that idiot pirate software guy has done to this initiative hopefully can be reversed in a short time if more large creators can get more eyeballs with the actual facts. EU citizens please go sign this.
@htpcnz @geerlingguy Ross made video separate video from his usual chat with viewers that talked about SKG initiative. So in that dedicated to SKG he answered questions and talked a bit, the motion got steam after him calling out. He was not fan of doing low brow move but if it makes SKG to work he was okay. So he has decided that petition got on track so he don't want to flack pirate guy as he no longer obstacle. So if SKG fail, it's on us not on guy who harmed image before.

@geerlingguy
There are issues with Youtube videos -> host your own peertube instance (or create a channel on an existing one)

There a games that have drm -> use GoG to buy your games and use your money to push for change. the more the better

@geerlingguy
I'm surprised MS and Apple haven't been more aggressive in trying to stop Linux.
MS already does everything in it's power to make dual booting challenging.
@geerlingguy Something similar is happening to most battery powered LEGO products (Technic, Mindstorms, Boost, etc). When the app goes away, the product becomes useless. This is not a hypothetical - it has already happened with quite a few LEGO sets. It used to be possible to replace the smart brick's firmware with something open source like Pybricks (I've been working on that). But LEGO products released since last year require signed firmware binaries, so even this is no longer possible.
@laurensvalk @geerlingguy Woah, really? Can you share more information on that?

@geerlingguy

The "I want to own my videogames" idea is the reason, why I buy my games only at https://www.gog.com

They sell only DRM free games and you can download the installers to achieve them on your system. So these game copys are owned by you.

Sadly they do not have all games but many. Enough for my gaming times for sure.

@geerlingguy It's absolutely insane (or sinister) that YouTube is pulling videos on self-hosting.
@geerlingguy looks like it won’t change in UK:
There are no plans to amend UK consumer law on disabling video games. Those selling games must comply with existing requirements in consumer law and we will continue to monitor this issue.

@timmillwood They posted that way back in February, when it had a few dozen votes.

With the threshold reached, they will need to at least bring it up in Parliament IIRC. But I'm not a UK politician, so I'm not sure how that all works :D

@geerlingguy Stop sponsoring shitty companies. Forbidding them from fucking over a tiny fraction of world population won't stop them from screwing all the others, while you will eagerly sponsor them as you personally are under the law protection. See also: GDPR.
