I should have done this a long time ago, but I only had wool yarn on hand. This bamboo sock yarn is perfect for the purpose. And it doesn't matter if my dyed hair stains them pink!

I have half a mind to decorate the top of the headphones with the same yarn, but I don't know what motif... My embroidery skills are limited. Anyone have ideas? #visiblemending #repaircafe

@Tryllesokker Woah, this is nice!! I'll have to remember this for when my headphones are worn out! You're just stitching through the material?
@svedigtype I don't know what the stitch is called, but you definitely could just go round and round in a spiral, I just tend to overcomplicate things 😅 You'll want a sharp embroidery needle, it doesn't go through the foam, just underneath it and through the fabric cover.
@Tryllesokker Love it, and now I finally know what to do with my worn-out headphones!
@Tryllesokker Okay, I did it! Thanks again for the inspiration! https://pixelfed.social/p/felwert/823453820988180208

The pads of my headphones started to wear out, so I decided to crochet a replacement. Inspired by @Tryllesokker@helvede.net. #crochet #VisibleMending

@Tryllesokker what a great idea, how much yarn did you use, just one "roll" should be enough, cause I need to something like that :)
@Tryllesokker A tight macrame pattern over the top offers possibilities.
@Tryllesokker with ears of course. Floppy dog ears, cat ears, rabbit ears.
@Tryllesokker I love everything about this
@Tryllesokker I love it! I just ordered new pads but what you did is a lot smarter!
@Tryllesokker I don't hate this because it's a bad idea. I hate it because it isn't a bad idea.
@Tryllesokker nobody's seemed to ask but how comfortable is it?
@Tryllesokker Sound wave type pattern?
I was thinking of crocheting mine but this is a great idea 👀
@Tryllesokker That's an idea! I need new foam for my headphones.
@Tryllesokker I'd love to do something similar. can I ask why not wool? is it cuz it's too soft/shifty?
@Tryllesokker I think we have the same headphones and maybe even the same yarn :) I’ve already replaced the cushions twice. Do they still make a good seal to your head with the yarn?
@Tryllesokker I would try a cat-ear motif for the top personally, but I think any ears/horns/antlers with headphones are hella cute and fun. Love the color scheme !!
@Tryllesokker lovely! i've got to try this; i keep replacing the pads and it feels silly and wasteful. i have done something similar to cover a flaky headband, i just knit a flat piece and stitched it up along the edges to make a tube.
@Tryllesokker Wow, I have the same ear pads and already had to replace them once... This seems like a nice alternative and I also wanted to get into embroidery; thank you!
@Tryllesokker This is so cool! Was it hard to do?
@Tryllesokker I'd be interested to see how you get on, I've got a pair of headphones with a peeling headband, protecting them with yarn is a great idea.

@Tryllesokker

Just brilliant!
Definitely spaniel ears made in one piece over the top.

@Tryllesokker that's brilliant and very pretty, thanks for the inspiration!
@Tryllesokker this took me back to primary school and making pom-poms ☺️
@natureworks
Now, just cut down the middle of the yarn ...
@Tryllesokker
@Tryllesokker Looks great, now I want mine pink as well. Keep in mind that on closed headphones, this will make them slightly less noise-cancelling.
@Tryllesokker Hearts or musical notes maybe? 💕❤️🎶🎵

@Tryllesokker I love this! I have a couple soft collar neck braces around my place, I need them for migraines, but I also used to wear them on flights because they work better for sleeping than those stupid neck pillows.

I wash them regularly but they are stained by hair dye and make up. I made “sleeves” for them from shirt sleeves from shirts that are not wearable anymore.

I don’t know why I didn’t think about doing this years ago. The material from my shirt sleeves is more comfortable than the material used for the brace, and I can somewhat color coordinate.

It’s less noticeable when it isn’t “medical device white” (I hate the attention it causes- people get confused when I explain it’s from an injury from 13 years ago, United healthcare wouldn’t pay for disc replacements, so here I am still in pain forever.)

@Tryllesokker heck yea! I've been putting socks on mine but this is a much better idea
@Tryllesokker wow that's awesome. I recently bought new ear peaches for my headphones, now I know what I should have done instead

@Tryllesokker
Actual textile makes more sense to me than the pretend fabric that they have in the foam replacements.

Now that you've done the one direction, weave in threads in the other direction for solid fabric 🤯

@Tryllesokker I probably should have considered this before chucking my old pads out (I bought replacements).
@Tryllesokker oh, such a good idea! I need to do this to mine, which are starting to fall apart.
More or less how much time did it take you for each side?
@Tryllesokker I love this idea. Does the yarn go all the way around the foam donut? If so, I'm confused about how the donut attaches to the headphone.
@kurt @Tryllesokker I need instructions as well I have the same issue (falling apart crumbs eghhh)
@Tryllesokker I would never had thought of this, thank you for sharing! My gaming headphones need a fix and this could maybe work.
@Tryllesokker love this, and have a pair that will get this treatment asap :)
Thank you for the idea!
@Tryllesokker OMG I also need to do something like that on my headphones!
@Tryllesokker Done ~ thanks for the idea!
@Tryllesokker I love the idea 🤩
@Tryllesokker oh my gosh, this is so clever! I've been needing to replace the pads on my headphones for a while now, but I may try this instead!
@Tryllesokker this is way better than my current solution, which is gaff tape

@Tryllesokker

Brilliant. My headphones are coming apart again, and I don't want to get yet another new set of ear muff thingies.

I'll see if I can find rainbow wool.

@Tryllesokker thank you for the inspiration! (my over-ears just started shedding, and now I have another craft to learn :-)

@Tryllesokker
The look gorgeous 🤩

Technical question, the yarn goes around the earpads (and you can still attach them)?

@Tryllesokker @blogdiva I think we have the same headphones! But mine are black. I bought extra pads for mine many years ago and when they spilt, I sew them back together. The flaky stuff has fallen off (with help from my fingernail) and they're soft. This is a great idea for if the next layer wears out. The noise canceling doesn't work as well anymore though, but I think that's to do with the electronics.
@Tryllesokker That’s actually pretty clever! I might do the same for mine once they deteriorate.
@Tryllesokker
That's great! My "pandemic headphones" are similarly worn out and I've been looking for a solution.
@Tryllesokker Very nice - much better looking than my effort (on much cheaper/simpler headphones):

Attached: 4 images My efforts at making replacement headphone ear pads. There are a few problems ... the felt will 'stretch', but doesn't return to it's previous shape very well, so they don't stay attached properly. Also the ear-facing part stretches too, so the punched holes get distorted. I could do better next time, but not much without revising the design. #headphones #sewing

@Tryllesokker Wow! I never thought about making yarn from bamboo fiber. Gotta research more.
@Tryllesokker Brilliant - *thanks for sharing*. If I understand it correctly, as these are Bose headphones, it also means the only modification is in the removable pads, so if someone doesn't like the end result, replacing the pads is still an option. Fantastic. I will be copying this when mine have fallen apart a bit more (I will have to raid my wife's extensive stash of sock wool)!!
