Mussolini was killed by Italian partisans (communists) 80 years ago tomorrow, 28 April 1945.

After learning of this, Hitler killed himself on 30 April 1945.

They do die, these bastards. We should celebrate that.

@Nickiquote I will celebrate when they get started.
@Nickiquote their current equivalents have the chance to do the funniest thing right now

@Nickiquote

I'm going to cheer myself up this evening by watching Der Untergang.

Public policy and health in the Trump era

This report by the Lancet Commission on Public Policy and Health in the Trump Era assesses the repercussions of President Donald Trump's health-related policies and examines the failures and social schisms that enabled his election. Trump exploited low and middle-income white people's anger over their deteriorating life prospects to mobilise racial animus and xenophobia and enlist their support for policies that benefit high-income people and corporations and threaten health. His signature legislative achievement, a trillion-dollar tax cut for corporations and high-income individuals, opened a budget hole that he used to justify cutting food subsidies and health care. His appeals to racism, nativism, and religious bigotry have emboldened white nationalists and vigilantes, and encouraged police violence and, at the end of his term in office, insurrection. He chose judges for US courts who are dismissive of affirmative action and reproductive, labour, civil, and voting rights; ordered the mass detention of immigrants in hazardous conditions; and promulgated regulations that reduce access to abortion and contraception in the USA and globally. Although his effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act failed, he weakened its coverage and increased the number of uninsured people by 2·3 million, even before the mass dislocation of the COVID-19 pandemic, and has accelerated the privatisation of government health programmes. Trump's hostility to environmental regulations has already worsened pollution—resulting in more than 22 000 extra deaths in 2019 alone—hastened global warming, and despoiled national monuments and lands sacred to Native people. Disdain for science and cuts to global health programmes and public health agencies have impeded the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, causing tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths, and imperil advances against HIV and other diseases. And Trump's bellicose trade, defence, and foreign policies have led to economic disruption and threaten an upswing in armed conflict.

The country began the pandemic with a degraded public health infrastructure, leading to more deaths than other high-income countries

I do the same, every morning from 25th February 2022, for Putin and all his collaborators.
@Nickiquote it would be even better if they died *before* causing so much damage. but I guess I want too much.
@infosecdj @Nickiquote that’d be a tragedy. We would weep at the life ended when they still had so many plans unfulfilled. Years would have been spent wondering if they had the means what kind of wonders would we have now? The world would have mourned them, before.
@Nickiquote loved! Thank you!
@Nickiquote ...so there's only need to find the right person to take care of, and the others fall behind. Interesting information that I will definitely not use but someone might.
@Nickiquote @haven The equilibrium state of despots is swinging from something.

@Nickiquote I will hope that Trump and all his maga demons do the same tomorrow

Then we will all dance in the streets for May day

@Nickiquote
there's a lesson in there #Patriots.. just sayin'
@Nickiquote I will never celebrate the death of any person.
@musiciankate Good for you. Most people would (and did) make an exception for Hitler, though.
@musiciankate @Nickiquote say there was a serial killer who killed, uh, millions of people. And one of the intended victims fights off the serial killer and kills him. Would you be glad that happened, or would you rather the victim and future other victims have died instead? Because we don't get some happy utopian future where none of us die. It's either the fascists, or it's everyone else. So I will gladly celebrate every life that gets to keep living when these fuckers die

@musiciankate @Nickiquote
I may be very wrong with this, but I'm sure you you celebrate death.

For moral reasons you think its wrong to celebrate the death of a person, and so what you do is deny to really acknowledging the person hood of those whims death you celebrate. Because you consume non-human animals and celebrate their death because of the taste and nutrition they serve you.

If you think it's fine to dismiss the personhood of millions of persons whims death you celebrate, I'm sure you can do this for one person more.

Also remember that there is no life without death.
Celebrating death, is celebrating the living.

Sure we should be against some forms of death, and each positions themselves differently, but not celebrating death at all seems dishonest with the reality you:re in.

@Nickiquote

Italian partisan Resistance groups were active throughout northern and much of central Italy. Often they were former soldiers cut off from home and still in possession of their weapons. Many were young men fleeing Mussolini's attempts to conscript them. Never heard that they were communists !

@bici Not all partisans were communist but the largest groups were as was the group and the person who captured and shot Mussolini. If you don't know this, maybe there's a reason for that?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brigate_Garibaldi

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Audisio

Brigate Garibaldi - Wikipedia

@Nickiquote

as an Italian I can tell you it's not that cut and dried. the Partizani in nord-est were not a majority of Communists! And the Garibaldi Brigades were largely communist-led, but not exclusively. So while many were communists they were not a majority

@bici You seem very keen to assert that communists did not kill Mussolini. They did.

@Nickiquote

not keen on saying anything.... the commies AND other FACTIONS did hang Il Duce.
What is not true is that the Italian Resistance movement were all COMMUNISTS . That would not be factual.

@bici Mussolini wasn't hanged.

And I never made that assertion.

@Nickiquote

True, you said killed.
He was executed and then hung in a Milano along with his mistress.

@Nickiquote

PS it is not at all clear if Walter Audisio a Communist was the one that was responsible for Il Duce death. It's debatable .

@Nickiquote

So. Italian partisans hung Mussolini. Italian partisans were not exclusively made up of Communists.

@Nickiquote @bici actually, these partisans, whoever they were, were able to capture Mussolini solely due to the fact that he lost the war.

@torf @Nickiquote

For sure. Mussolini and his mistress were on the run to Switzerland and so had little protection around him ...

@Nickiquote @torf

NIck, thanks for the reminder that tomorrow is the anniversary of Il Duce's execution

"Benito Mussolini, was summarily executed by an Italian partisan in the village of Giulino di Mezzegra in northern Italy on 28 April 1945, in the final days of World War II in Europe."

@Nickiquote
To be fair, Walter Audisio and the group that executed Benito Mussolini were carrying out an order by the insurrectionary committee in Milan which gathered representatives of different political extractions (communist, socialist, Partito d'Azione), including Sandro Pertini (socialist) who became later President of the Italian Republic.
Also, a death sentence against Mussolini had previously been ruled by the CLNAI

@Nickiquote healthcare and surveillance are much improved nowadays, so bad guys may still die one day, but probably can live longer than they use to.
@Nickiquote ..the followers and skull heads did die too but the idea breeds atrocities today still and again.

@Nickiquote How many people had to die to make this happen?

Start early, save lives.

@Nickiquote I’d rather see them languish in a prison with one blanket, sleeping on cold floors and being fed pig slop.
@CanadianCrone @Nickiquote so torture instead? If they're gonna suffer so much either way, I'd prefer the option where they can't break out and come back
@Nickiquote Happy Mussolini Executed Day to everyone who celebrates.
@Nickiquote I urge everyone to read what Mussolini's fascists did in Libya and Ethiopia long before WW2 even started. He was a monster and deserved to be killed.
