Dreugan@grrlscientist They really need to make the diagnostic criteria and classification more clear though. I understand what they were trying to do with the spectrum method but it is too broad and, let's face it, idiots like RFK Jr lack the mental ability to comprehend something that complex and nuanced.

Facts don't matter if your true believe is different and so don't match for those.
@ScharfeZunge @grrlscientist Nothing can be done about belief based on faith rather than science and fact.
It is also indicative of how few people know about the scientific method and how a hypothesis becomes a theory/fact. They just understand confirmation bias because it is easy and requires no effort.
Just the end of the plan for conservatives and their decades long dismantling of education and teaching critical thinking.

auser@grrlscientist A planet existing is a different fact from a psychological diagnosis that is based on social science, more so about autism that its diagnosis has to do with social behavior of the individual compared to the group.

And autistic people existed before then: Newton and Cavendish (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC539373/), Michelangelo (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15079170/), etc.

But according to Merriam-Webster's Time Traveler, all of the following words entered after that, and he'd be hard-pressed to argue they didn't exist before: Yupik, Linear B, Nuristani, Tutsi, Yinglish, suicidal ideation, Mid-ocean Ridge, kippah, monkeypox, Ediacaran, origami, abled, sexual orientation, DNA, premenstrual syndrome (medicine is famed for paying attention to women), and eukaryote.
