Interesting (but entirely anecdotal) note since I started responding with human trafficking assistance resources to every incoming sha zhu pan ("pig butchering") text message -- they have stopped completely. I believe I got added to some exclusion list the criminals pass around. So I can endorse this strategy on several levels now.
Q: Where do self-employed C programmers work from?

A: From a stdio.

Adtech-driven anger farming social media:

"We won't let you meaningfully search for anything in the endless doomscroll we are serving you cuz that might cost us engagement"

Mastodon:

"We won't let you meaningfully search for anything in order to protect a minority that we refuse to give the tools not to be searchable in order not to be harassed"

Spending the holidays processing just how betrayed I feel by the software and web industry

Basically my career has been fifteen years of hope and promise—some fulfilled, some not—followed by a decade where the industry dropped all pretence and switched to just overtly looting, manipulating, and gouging.

Being a bit angry about it is probably quite reasonable

Today's LinkedIn job suggestions:

- cashier at a Chanel store in Amsterdam
- policy intern with Europol The Hague

But AI is sure to rule the world.

Meanwhile elsewhere in social media land....

Its seems Yanis Varoufakis is being imitated & misrepresented by a deep AI fake in videos on YouTube.... which YT will not take down

I don't think I'll stop using Firefox anytime soon.
Yes, their management are fucking idiots and it's annoying that I'll have to disable new AI features whenever they release them..

But the alternative is to use something Chromium-based, which would make Google's domination of web technology absolute - and Google is 100x more evil than Mozilla ever could be.

I hope this fucking bubble pops before Mozilla fucks up Firefox so badly that it becomes completely unusable

To spell this out clearly, the reason RAM has quadrupled in price is that a huge quantity of RAM that hasn't been produced yet has been bought with money that doesn't exist to populate GPUs that also haven't been produced to go in datacenters that haven't been built powered by infrastructure that may never exist to meet a demand that doesn't exist at all to make profit margins that mathematically can't exist while economists talk about this thing they call the "rational markets hypothesis".
