Whistleblower reveals evidence on how Elon Musk's DOGE team extracted 10 GB of sensitive data about American citizens from a government agency, and then deleted accounts and logs to cover their tracks.

Then, when the whistleblower tried to report the data breach, he received a threatening letter containing pictures taken from a drone watching him walking his dog.

@randahl "Nice life you have there. Be a shame if something happened that made you travel to El Salvador".
@randahl Jesus....
@gabriel
Oh your file doesn't mention that your middle name is Jesus, but that should be proof enough that you are a filthy Hispanic who belongs south of the border. Give me a moment to call the ICE tip hotline. So enjoy your free vacation in El Salvador.
@randahl
@randahl A criminal enterprise is running the country, Trump has learned from his mobster friends and Elon from his white-power friends in South Africa.
@randahl it's really scary stuff
@randahl holy shit, thanks for the link
@randahl Please enlighten me what sort of law respecting governance system would ever do this? Any step of it actually. Even one.

@randahl

My entire adult life I have been hearing from Republicans railing against the evils of Big Guvernment and it is literally the first thing they do when they get completely control of said government. 45+ years of nonstop lies.

@KanaMauna @randahl It's what I keep saying: They're full of shit. All of them. Always. Everywhere. It is NEVER, EVER about "legitimate concerns" because the fucking nanosecond one of them acquires any sort of power they immediately drop every single one of those "concerns" while the rest of them, also having suddenly forgotten those "concerns", gleefully whoop & cheer - all of them without a single iota of conscience.
@randahl Tangentially, it's interesting that after years of being politically somewhat soft, now that NPR is facing some real threats to its funding, they've decided to not play nice.
@maccruiskeen @randahl at least they're going out swinging
@randahl This should be a front-page scandal in all media.
Why is it not? People without spines?
@Gladso @randahl billionaires own the media. It’s at you, not for you.
@randahl this has to have happened at all the agencies DOGE went into
@randahl These assholes are criminals.
@randahl Wow, if that's true, and these idiots remain in power, we're fucked, the whole world.
@darrenhartland @randahl You're just now figuring that out...?
@jwcph @randahl I knew before, but I don't live in the states so you never know what's fact and what's media sensationalism.
@randahl
Welcome to the United States of Socialist Republics! Groan ...
@briankrebs

@randahl "the NxGen case management system hosts proprietary data from corporate competitors, personal information about union members or employees voting to join a union"

Why does the government even keep records of people voting to form a union? Of course Musk is interested if any of them works for him...
That's why you should not even collect that much data. If it falls into wrong hands... like NOW, this can end bad for so many people who did NOTHING WRONG.

@randahl

Congress doesn't have a lot of authority with complicit fools in the majority, but they do have investigative authority. This seems like a scandal that would end an administration in ordinary times.

@randahl What goes through these people's minds watching dystopian films? "Ooh, how lovely. Electrified holding pens? Great idea."
@randahl Book a flight to Frankfurt and say "asylum" at the immigration counter ...
@randahl Also, there are links to the Russian government.
@randahl if President Boer is running the show it will almost certainly fail.
