Last year I made a little scorekeeper app for a card game I play. I had so much fun with it I remembered I got into programming because I like building things, and had been too focused on trying to break into the startup world.

I decided I wanted to build a series of apps that were purely hobby projects, and to not consider monetization or potential funding at all. Just things I will enjoy building and using myself. #sideproject | #indiedev | #flutter | #buildinpublic

Here's the next one:

Backcast - an app that shows you the past 5 days of weather for a given location, and calculates how likely the ground is to be dry. I personally will use this quite a bit for #mountainbiking #offroading and #camping. I'm also hoping it'll be useful for #hiking and #trailrunning.

Work in progress:

This is for sure a niche audience, which is sort of the point, but I need to be better about building in public and promoting the stuff I'm working on. If you happen to be interested in trying Backcast you can signup for the waitlist here, or just follow me 😁

@JaxonEvans this would be very cool for climbers. You need to wait at least 24-48 hours before climbing on soft stone after a rain. I would love to test if you need it.
@Abiv I can’t believe I didn’t think of that! I used to do a ton of climbing, although mostly inside. Hoping to do a release in the next week 🤞🏽
@JaxonEvans happy to test or help with UX, as we get into climbing and Mtn biking season!

I love the idea of using this BackCast app to chat with my weather sensitive friends.

“I don’t care about if it looks like rain tomorrow, do you realize that the spot where you are standing only received 13 mm of rain this last week?!?”

When I say chat, I really mean trolll.
